Configuration du modem US Robotics 56K

Hello everyone and congratulations on this extraordinary site.

I recently acquired an independent US Robotics 56k Message Modem that works properly both as a voice answering machine and a fax with the Classic Phone Tools software from BVRP. However, this version of Phone Tools is adapted by US Robotics.
I couldn't install the Control Center provided with it because there is clearly a conflict with Phone Tools. But that's not important since I have ADSL internet with the Livebox.

One problem only:

For a voice call, if I set the number of rings, for example to 4, before the modem (in standalone mode) switches to the answering machine, everything goes normally as long as I don't open Phone Tools.

As soon as I open Phone Tools to retrieve messages and then close it, the modem does switch back to standalone mode, but the number of rings is then set to 6 instead of 4.
The problem is systematic, as if the modem does not retain the number of rings, regardless of whether they are set through "Configuration" in Phone Tools or through Hyper Terminal.
I tried with a second computer running XP, same problem.
I contacted US Robotics support and for the past two weeks, no matter what my question is, I receive the same reply asking me to install the latest version of Phone Tools available on their site, even though I've already uninstalled and reinstalled this software half a dozen times.

For your information, upon the first closure of Phone Tools, "US Robotics 56k message V92 modem release, please wait" is displayed, then this message does not appear anymore on subsequent closures.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide me, as 6 rings before the answering machine makes callers lose patience and not leave a message because the wait is too long. As for US Robotics support, they are jokers.
Thanks again
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello
This problem hasn't been raised in years...
It's vacation time... No one's around...

Now that this system is obsolete, no one is interested in it anymore...

Well, from my memory, you shouldn't go through robotic us, you should even uninstall it to do it right, but it's the voicemail option that interests you, so: to keep

However, the solution can be found in Windows, you need to succeed in configuring the modem with the Windows telephony utility, all while keeping the software as a voicemail

I've put you on the right track, I'm exhausted, let me know where you stand and I'll check tonight how we used to do it
thank you for your understanding

<Good evening,
thank you very much for your guidance, but since I am not a specialist, just a "handy person" (more or less, actually!), if you could kindly give me some additional information on how to proceed when you can, that would be great.
It is true that fax is not widely used these days, but this modem is meant to replace a traditional fax which I still use for receiving documents from certain countries where internet connection works very poorly, and furthermore, it happens to be the safest means in those same countries to make, for example, a hotel reservation with a credit card number.

Thanks again and see you later.

Good evening
I'm still looking, but I can't seem to recreate it

I have a question, with this modem, do you connect to the internet as well?
Or is it connected to a separate phone line?

Otherwise, an alternative might present itself, most ISPs manage fax now...

Hello,

I don't use the modem for internet access since I have a Livebox. Only the fax memory and voicemail recorder function interests me.

Thank you and see you soon!

I have the same problems with aggravation. The fax response is now blocked and I can't even uninstall it.
I previously had an Olifax memory system that worked satisfactorily for 7 years before it failed on me. Unable to find an Olitec speed memory, I bought the US Robotics with phone tool... A nightmare...
If you have managed to get this monster to work properly, I would like to talk about it...

Hello,

I am on a professional training contract in computer troubleshooting.
I have installed (configured US Robotics 56K message modem) and everything works well as long as the "Phone tools" software is open.
But as soon as I turn off my computer in standalone mode, the ANSWERING MACHINE ONLY function does not work???!!!!!
The answers I am waiting for are how to configure the standalone mode?

Thank you in advance for your explanations.

Hello Mika and others,
I am also looking for information on how to configure a 56k US Robotics modem; I would like to know about its functioning.
I want to connect a 56k US Robotics modem that I also have to the fax jack on the wall.
But I have a few questions:
1- When the PC is off and someone calls me, does the modem act as an answering machine that can store 20 minutes of messages, is that correct?
2- When someone sends me a fax and I'm not home, will I receive the fax when I open the software that comes with the modem?
3- If I receive a fax and I am present, what should I do? Open the software on the PC?
I would like to clarify that I do not wish to use a fax phone but a 56k US Robotics modem on my second fax telephone line.

PS: Mika, if I can help you with your problem, have you tried opening your modem? It is equipped with an EPROM memory that stores the answering messages for a maximum of 20 minutes.
Your modem may have a backup battery, similar to those on PC motherboards, to retain the settings, such as the number of rings before switching to answer mode.
Thanks to everyone...
