Missing driver for USB to Ethernet adapter

Hi champions!
I just bought a USB to Ethernet adapter to connect in my residence where the internet comes out of the walls via Ethernet cable. My notebook doesn't have an Ethernet port, so I purchased (a bit hastily) the Microsoft adapter for Surface...
Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my PC since a driver is missing :( Is it possible for me to download it, or can the adapter only be used on a tablet?
When I ask Windows to search for the missing driver, it can't find it on its own:

    Hello,

    Download this driver --> Ethernet Adapter.zip
    and place it in your documents.

    Right-click on --> Ethernet Adapter.zip
    Choose --> extract all

    Go to Device Manager
    Right-click on the device in question
    Update driver
    Browse my computer for driver software
    Browse
    Go to your documents
    Select the unzipped driver folder --> Ethernet Adapter
    OK, next
    Restart
