disk pagination Solved

Question

Hello,

I’m having a small problem opening my external hard drive. I go to My Computer, I click on my external hard drive, after a few seconds I get this message.

j:\ is not accessible.
Error during a paging operation.

Hello,

I'm reacting to this old post to say that the chkdsk trick works wonderfully!

I violently unplugged my hard drive and I had a paging error..

solution :

start -> run -> cmd

chkdsk lettredudisk /F /X

and there you go!

a question: does it stay constantly plugged into this computer or do you unplug it from time to time without going through right-click on the clock at the bottom right and then Disable this device... safely?

If you don’t apply deactivation before unplugging it, it’s not very good. If at the moment you unplug it the system accesses the external drive, it can cause problems later, damaged clusters.

Now try this: From Run type CHKDSK G: /F Replace the letter G with the one assigned to your external drive.

Following the analysis if any errors are found you should transfer your data as soon as possible to reformat this drive, or if it’s too serious replace it.

I was afraid for my disk, indeed I had shut down my PC and forgot to disable the external drive. I followed your advice (From Run, type CHKDSK G: /F Replace the letter G with the one assigned to your external drive).

It worked, I can access my disk. I will perform a data transfer and format.

Hello everyone,

Well, I just did this trick myself as well because I was desperate about my external hard drive being unplugged quickly for fear of weird "clunk" "clunk" sounds while it was flat on my desk... and because I couldn't open it anymore due to a paging error...

A BIG thank you to the wizard, I won't touch it again until I make a backup and return it to the store since I bought it 7 days ago...

October 28, 2013 and DOS commands remain the most effective. Tested today following the same symptoms mentioned by Gypsies in 2007 and it still works!
