Unable to play an .AVI on my DVD player (format or audio)

Hello everyone,

I regularly watch .avi movies on my Panasonic DVD player, but sometimes certain .avi files do not play or the audio is incompatible (WTF?). I don’t understand why some play without any problems while others just don’t work or the audio isn’t compatible. Do you have any idea why?
If so, please don’t suggest software that comes out of nowhere without explanation. I want the complete process to follow because I’m fed up with software like HandBrake that is incomprehensible. I want to understand!
Knowing that MKV files do not work.

    Hello

    First, check the manual of your player to know the supported formats.
    Generally for AVI it is.

    avi(xvid+mp3)

    avi is the container.
    xvid is the video codec.
    mp3 is the audio codec.
    All in a resolution not exceeding 720x576.

    To compare an AVI that works and one that doesn't, it is useful to use
    mediainfo. This will give you the information. You can then determine the "HIC" (unsupported codec or others).

    You can also use vlc for less precise but useful details.

    You can also give us the exact model of your player so that we can do a little research.

      Yes, everything reads perfectly on my computer, but once I put them on a USB stick and plug it into my DVD player, some files won't play, and others have incompatible audio.

      It’s just that your DVD player can’t read the type of compression and/or quality.

    You need to convert your AC3 to MP3 in this case.
    I don't have the details of your rip (AC3 2.1, 5.1)
    Please provide the reference of your player.

    In this case, xmedia recode in stream copy mode (it doesn't affect the video but takes care of converting your AC3 to MP3) quite quickly.
