Hello, First of all, I wish you a very happy New Year 2016. I have an old central unit (but no screen) from which I would like to recover data, photos, and videos. Is it possible to connect it to my laptop to transfer them to my PC or hard drive??? Thank you for your responses Have a nice Sunday

Hello....  Best wishes to you too...;) Yes, you can quite easily transfer the contents of your old hard drive to another one, you just need a small accessory: either an external enclosure for an internal hard drive, or a specific cable..either one costs about €20.  https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00038535.html: I have this, it's "universal"! The C drive from the old machine, you just need to remove it from the tower (or the laptop) and put it in your enclosure... you can even recover the data and then leave the HDD inside to use it for backup... However, make sure that the enclosure supports the format and connectivity of the old HDD: SATA or IDE (connectivity) and 2.5 or 3.5" (format)...  -- "Who wants to climb a mountain begins at the bottom!" The only reasons that could prevent this from working would be that the old hard drive is faulty, or that the necessary connections are not the same: definitely do not force any random cable! You need to unplug the two ribbons in the tower, reconnect them in the enclosure, then connect a USB cable between the enclosure and your current PC, and power the enclosure from the mains...
