    Hi,

if we talk about the French word it is written mesquine
If we talk about the Latin alphabet adaptation of the Arabic expression "the poor" (pity), it doesn't matter but generally it's meskine that we see even if orally it sounds more like m'sskine.

what does that have to do with office automation?
if not, there are dictionaries available in print and online

also look into expressions like "hair in the hand"

    Hello Dthlz,

well, it all depends on what you're talking about and in which language:

    Miskine:
    https://www.programme-tv.net/news/buzz/61674-que-veut-dire-miskine/

    Meskine:
    https://dico-des-mots.com/definitions/meskine.html

In French, Mesquin, mesquine (often feminine by the way ;-)
    https://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/mesquin_mesquine/50762

In short, a search on the web would have saved you time and given you more targeted information.

    Hello Dthlz.

What are you talking about? Both spellings exist.

If it's about the fourth track and first single from the collaborative album by Soprano and R.E.D.K., E=2MC's released on 27/04/12 under EMI Music, it's "Soprano - Meskine Lyrics | Genius"

But if it's about the title by Disiz (with Paroles.net) it's Miskine !

Merci pour toutes vos réponses. Je parle du mot arabe (le pauvre). Sur le net, on peut trouver diverses réponses, plus ou moins fausses. Sinon, j'ai quand même réussi à trouver en demandant à des Algériens, et la vraie écriture est "meskin" et "meskina" au féminin.

If you had indicated from the start that it was an Arabic word, you would have saved us the trouble of looking in all directions unnecessarily!
And if you ask Arabs who are not Algerians, they will probably give you a different spelling...

On says "miskine", since in Arabic it is written with an "i", it makes sense to transcribe it with an "i". -Syk
