Hello everyone,
I'm trying to gather parts to build a gaming PC that performs better than what I currently have, after purchasing a GTX 970 graphics card.
I acquired an i7 920 second-hand at a good price (the OC makes it significantly more performant apparently).
I was planning to buy an MSI Gaming 5 motherboard, but on the MSI website, the processor is not listed as compatible.
So I would like to know if it’s not listed because it's too old, but still compatible, or not.
If it isn't, what motherboard should I buy to run my graphics card decently?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi
the I7 920 is not compatible with the MSI Gaming 5 format
I7 920 FCLGA1366
MSI Gaming 5 ATX
so either you change the motherboard to have an FCLGA1366 format
or you change the processor to have an ATX format
here's a site to prepare your own computer

the components will be compatible

Hi,
you're doing things the wrong way, indeed your CPU is over 5 years old, what a bad idea to buy a CPU without knowing the appropriate motherboard. Plus, the 970 needs the latest BIOS versions, you're in a bit of a mess there.
Can you give your current config?

My current setup is that of a custom-built PC I bought for a low price two years ago, and I won’t be salvaging anything from it. My new setup should revolve around the GTX970, and probably an MSI Gaming 5 motherboard... So what about the processor to buy, given that my budget isn’t unlimited ^^ The minimum would suffice for me...
A quick Google search gave me little hope... the FCKGA1366 format doesn't seem to be in circulation anymore.
So I think I'll go for a processor change instead.
In that case, which processor should I buy to properly run my graphics card with a budget of 150/200 euros?
