Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 for free

Hello,
I currently have a PC with Windows XP, the activation key, and the installation CD, all completely legal. However, since Windows XP is a bit outdated, I would like to upgrade to Windows 7. Is it possible to upgrade for free or do I need to spend €100?
