Hello,
I installed my Linksys WRT54GS (1.0) on my LiveBox Play to get internet via WIFI in a corner of my garden where the LiveBox signal did not reach at all. I searched for a while and found all sorts of solutions, even installing Linux instead of the router's firmware (not a bad idea) when I was looking for a simple solution.
I finally found the right configuration (solution) for my project and I am sharing it with you in this pseudo-tutorial. Anyone is welcome to improve these lines as they see fit.
The simplest way to configure it is to have one computer connected to the Box (either wired or wifi) and one connected to the router (wired), as well as a smartphone (or other device) intended for the router's WIFI for testing.
The Ethernet cable connecting the Box to the router should be plugged into a regular port on the Box and into one of the "regular" lan ports of the Linksys.
To configure on the LiveBox Play: Nothing
-> Check the DHCP range in advanced configuration / DHCP tab
- Enable DHCP
- Box IP address: 192.168.1.1
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Starting IP address: 192.168.1.2*
- Ending IP address: 192.168.1.150*
To configure on the router:
-> In Configuration / basic Configuration tab
Internet section (Ethernet port where the Box is connected): Static IP configuration
- Router network LAN address: 192.168.1.200
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway (Box): nothing
- DNS (Box in this case): nothing
We choose 1.200 outside the Box's DHCP range and verify that it is not used in the network...
disable the DHCP server on the Linksys LAN
WIFI section:
- Configure normally
Connect the Linksys (or other router) to the LiveBox (or other box) through one of its LAN ports to one of the LAN ports of the box.
The WAN port of the "router" will remain unused.
The Linksys will no longer act as a router, but as a simple switch/WIFI access point.
PCs will receive addresses in the Box's network (192.168.1.0/24).
The Box is still manageable at http://192.168.1.1 and the Linksys at http://192.168.1.200
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 38.0

Hello,
Would any of you have an hour of your time to clean up my first message with the information provided afterwards? I won't be touching my network for several days (no need for sharing between computers) but it would be good to offer a simple and clear tutorial for those who might come across this page during their research.
Thanks for them ;)

I didn't think you could modify that directly. Cool.
However, there is one sentence to modify at the end of the introduction:
"The Ethernet cable connecting the Box to the router must be plugged into a regular socket on the Box and into the "Internet" or "WAN" port on the router."
To:
"The Ethernet cable connecting the Box to the router must be plugged into a normal socket on the Box and into a numbered (normal) socket on the router."
Thank you. -
