Hello,
I've been looking for all the possible phrases for the problem I have, but I can't find anything that resembles it, so I'm launching this first problem statement.
My MacBook Pro freezes a few seconds after I confirm or refuse to download a file in Firefox (or Chrome, by the way). That infamous window that appears in the upper left corner saying: "Do you want to accept the download of this file." Whether I accept or not, 10 seconds later the mouse stops working, the spinning beach ball appears, spins, then freezes, and my Mac is paralyzed. I then force a shutdown.
I've done several system file repairs (Command+S at startup, fsck -y), permission repairs in Disk Utility by clicking on "Repair Permissions," and resetting the PRAM (Command+Option+P+R, until the 4th "boing").
But nothing works, which is why I suspect my browser (namely Firefox, even though I remember Chrome causing similar issues) to be the cause of these paralyzing bugs on my computer.
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I assume you have the latest version of Firefox; if not, you know what you need to do.
One thing seems strange to me, and that’s the fact that Firefox is asking you to accept a download. Do you have any parental control application or something else that could be causing this? It might be due to an add-on in Firefox: can you disable all the Firefox add-ons and see if that improves things?
Does Safari allow you to make these downloads?
Suggestion:
Create another user account on your Mac and test the same downloads from Firefox. If it finally works, then you have corrupted preferences in your original user account.
Note: after every forced shutdown of a Mac, you need to run the "fsck -yf" procedure.

Thank you for your response. When I talk about the file acceptance window, I'm referring to these windows: https://www.ibm.com/security/fraud-protection/trusteer
I do not have parental control. However, I have indeed disabled my two add-ons (Firebug and AdBlock), and when I performed the exercise of downloading a file (such as movie subtitles), there was no bug this time. This would mean that the blockage is due either to Firebug or to Adblock?
Response to the note: typo (I forgot the "f" at the end of "fck -y" in the first post).
- Firebug enabled and Adblock enabled: apparently a bug
- Firebug disabled and Adblock disabled: apparently no bug
You need to test the last two cases and we can conclude:
- Firebug enabled and Adblock disabled: bug or no bug?
- Firebug disabled and Adblock enabled: bug or no bug?
- Firebug enabled and Adblock disabled: no bug
- Firebug disabled and Adblock enabled: no bug
and even now:
- Firebug enabled and Adblock enabled: apparently a bug but now no bug
- Firebug disabled and Adblock disabled: no bug.
So let's imagine that this computer blocking issue doesn't come from the browser. For the past few days, I've been doing a lot of vectorization on Illustrator, so I have Illustrator, sometimes Photoshop, Mail, Firefox, LinoType Font Explorer, and occasionally Preview and TextEdit open. Could it be possible that this file saving request causes my computer to become saturated and lock up?
for info
Mac OSX 10.6.8
Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core Duo
Memory 4Go 1067 MHz DDR3
Capacity: 319.73 Go
Available: 27.79 Go
Everything was fine until today when my computer froze again while opening an attachment from the Mail app.
Could there be a connection with the causes mentioned above?
To provide more clues for this great mystery, I would like to add some observations from my daily use, this might help:
- I often have a Wacom graphic tablet connected (I suspect these bugs occur when it is connected)
- I listen to the radio via a continuous stream on the internet (Radio France player)
Nevertheless, it seems that the bug is related to downloading files whether they come from a web browser or a locally installed messaging service.
Thank you in advance for your feedback if this additional information helps you resolve this increasingly annoying problem.
