Migration Assistant cannot find a source.

Hello,

I received my new MacBook Pro 2 days ago. I have a problem when I want to put my "TimeMachine" backup on it.
Both computers (the new and the old) recognize the hard drive, but when I open the migration assistant, they can't find the hard drive. It searches for a source for a long time but finds nothing.
Do you know how I can solve this problem? Or should I transfer using a FireWire cable?

Thank you for your replies.

Hello,

How is this drive usually connected? Firewire, USB, Wifi?
When we launch the migration assistant, does the Mac enter a special mode where all applications are quit, and maybe at that moment, the WIFI connection doesn't work?
If the problem is WIFI, try connecting it via wired mode (USB or FireWire). The Migration Assistant is supposed to work with WIFI, USB cable, FireWire, or even Ethernet.

(So this is a test to perform, although in my case, the system accepts both my drive connected via Firewire 800 and the Time Capsule connected via WIFI)

The hard drive is connected via USB. When I exit the migration assistant, I still find the drive connected on the desktop, which seems strange to me.

The backup is probably not recognized by the new Mac.
You need to carefully read the help page I mentioned. Perhaps there is an issue due to a different username or something like that...
