American Conquest Black Screen

Hello.

Here is my problem:
I downloaded American Conquest and AC Fight Back on Steam, installed them without any issues on W7 Pro 64 bits, but upon launching, I received an error message regarding Direct Draw (init failed 80004001)
So, I lowered my resolution to the minimum and the game launches ... BADABOOM it launches but the screen remains black and I can hear the game's music.
I tried launching the game by disabling explorer.exe but that changed nothing.

And now I can’t find much on the forums and I need help please

Here is my setup (which should run it while sipping a mojito)
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU: i7-4790
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 970
RAM: 8GB

and all the drivers are up to date

    Uh, I would even say two mojitos and a cuba libre...

    Just kidding, try to do a file verification for the games... Sometimes it works.

      Done but not conclusive :-/ uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work either.
      I'll try going through Virtual PC under XP to see if it does anything.

      The problem with Virtual XP is that you don't have real graphics drivers, so for playing games, you can only run old ones from '98....

      I didn't need to install any drivers and the game works perfectly, the only problem is making it full screen but that's just nitpicking.
