File opening in "Notepad" instead of "PDF"

Hello,
I have a problem.
When I receive an email with a PDF file attached, instead of opening in PDF, it opens in "Notepad" mode.
Can you tell me what I need to do to fix this problem?
I have the following programs installed on my PC:
- ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 16 ACTIVE X
- ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 16 NPAPI
- ADOBE READER XI (11.0.10) FRENCH
- ADOBE SHOCK WAVE PLAYER 11.6

start/control panel/programs/default programs/associate a file type or protocol with a program
in the dropdown menu, scroll down to the .pdf extension, the associated program should be marked as Notepad, select it and click on change the program (at the top right) choose Adobe Reader and do the same for all .pdf extensions check the box: always use the selected program...
