Convert a PDF document to 300 dpi resolution

Hello,

I need to send a document to a printer in PDF format and at 300 dpi resolution. I have converted my Word document to PDF, but I'm not sure how to set the resolution to 300 dpi. If you find this question a bit silly, please enlighten me! Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,

in response to Thorak83, I would like to add that, depending on your version of Word, it is advisable to check in the advanced options that the "Do not compress images in file" option is enabled (it is unchecked by default and set to 220 dpi).

Furthermore, depending on the converter you are using, you can set a conversion quality option of low, standard, high, optimal.

Hello,

A PDF file does not have a resolution, just like a Word file. However, the images inside do.

So it's not the PDF that needs to be set to 300 dpi, but the images within it.
Make sure that the images in Word are at 300 dpi before creating the PDF.

Thank you for your response. My original Word file consists of text, inserted shapes, and clipart images also inserted from Word. I don’t need to do anything, the resolution will be good?

Yes, because shapes and cliparts are vector objects that do not degrade.

Sure, thank you. The option not to compress images is indeed disabled, but I don’t know how to choose an optimal quality (I don’t know what a converter is...! I simply saved my document by changing the type to PDF).
So, if I want to insert an image from Google, how do I convert it to 300 dpi (by opening it with Microsoft Office 2010)?

With Word 2010, you must have used the command "Save as Adobe PDF."
It has no options and uses the resolution of the images placed in the document (depending on whether compression is enabled or not, etc.).

For images from the Web, unless you purchase them from specialized sites, in which case they need to be downloaded, most of them are in very low resolution (72 or 96 dpi) for reasons primarily related to transfer speed.
While you can "degrade" an image with Word, you cannot increase its resolution. Even photo editing software cheats for that.
You can ask the image owner to send you the original (be careful with copyright...).
