Strange black rectangle Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

Thank you again to the community and to those who take the time to read and respond to this problem. Your help is valuable.
I’m not sure if it’s a virus, malware, or something else, but I must admit I don’t really know what to do anymore...
So, I have a black rectangle that appears, with a kind of zero that looks like it’s been cut out in white inside; this symbol appears in the bottom right of the screen above the time. This icon is very real as I can move it around. I took a screenshot on a white background so you can visualize it clearly. It’s particularly annoying in cinema mode, as whenever I watch a video in full screen, it stays embedded...
I’m using Windows 7 if that helps.
Do you have any idea what it might be? And how can I get rid of it?

Hello,

I found the problem although I don't know the solution to fix it without uninstalling CCleaner.
That cursed rectangle comes from CCleaner.
In fact, it never appears as long as CCleaner hasn't started.
I completely uninstalled CCleaner and the problem disappeared permanently after rebooting.
I don't know if it's a form of malware or some other spyware, but in ignorance, I prefer to uninstall it.
I replaced it with BleachBit while waiting to find something better.

Unfortunately, I can't provide you with an answer, but just to say that I have exactly the same thing that has appeared on my screen these days.
I clearly have one or more parasites lurking on my PC, could it be that?

Not recently, no, it's been a while... For my part, it doesn't appear at the startup of Windows, which suggests a malware or adware issue rather than a display defect.

Exactly, yes!
It indeed appears at the bottom right of the scrollbar after a few minutes of browsing. Just the same.

(I had the impression that it looked like a piece of the CCleaner interface, but indeed that wouldn't be logical...)

It's curious that there are only two of us mentioning it...

Thank you for contributing to solving this issue, Mosquetas also brought up the subject of Ccleaner, it seems unlikely, you never know, but still...
In any case, it clearly hasn't worked for you. I'm trying to see if closing certain applications from the task manager makes any difference, but for now, I'm not making any progress.

Having the same "problem" as you, I believe it is only a display issue. Being a user of Comodo antivirus + firewall, this rectangle looks like a fragment of the notification window banner (the half of the last o)

Hello,  Thank you for your response, it indeed seems to match regarding the logo. I also use Comodo, apart from trying to uninstall and reinstall, I don't see much else...

Hello everyone,

I had the same problem as you (the Comodo logo at the bottom right corner of the screen).

While digging around, I came across a discussion (in English) of people having this issue as well. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/564276/computer-strange-behaviors/

They (probably) found a solution; it seems that the problem comes from the messages automatically displayed by COMODO. Here’s the procedure to follow:

- open Comodo
- click on "Firewall" for example
- go to "General Settings"
- Then to "User Interface"
- Uncheck "Show messages from COMODO Message Center"
- Ok and then restart the computer.

I tested it, and so far no more black rectangle; we’ll see in the long run.

Hello, don’t worry, you must have Comodo Internet Security installed on your PC, and actually, it's the process cis.exe that displays this rectangle. If you want to remove it, it's simple: press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and terminate the Comodo Internet Security process, the rectangle will disappear, and then click on your Comodo icon again to restart it, and you will see the rectangle won’t come back. So, it's just a bug at the initial launch of Comodo, but nothing serious, and the cut zero is actually the C from the Comodo logo.

bobosawyer, for your information+: unchecking "Show messages from COMODO Message Center" just disables the display of certain notifications that appear occasionally at the bottom right of the screen to inform us about new features across all Comodo software. They appear in this form ;)
