Uninstall Lilo

Menthos -

I wanted to uninstall Mandrake 9.1 and revert to the initial configuration of my PC running only XP.
Unfortunately, at startup, LILO starts up and still offers me the two OS options.
How can I remove LILO and set XP to boot automatically?

I tried the command fdisk /mbr in DOS, but it does not seem to be recognized.

Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Thank you in advance.

you should also check, depending on the version of XP you have, if bootpart ( http://www.winimage.com ) could help you out, but normally fdisk /mbr should do the trick

XP HE or Pro?

I started with the back to the startup with a floppy disk. For XP, it's HE

Thank you for your help

Is fdisk really on the floppy disk? Is the missing space between fdisk and /mbr just a typo in your message, or did you type the command like that?

The floppy disk was created under XP (he) in the format menu (disk A) with the option: create an MS-DOS startup disk.

I have written several variations of "fdisk /mbr" but I may not have found the right one.

Here is the exact syntax:
A:\>fdisk /mbr
Bad command or file name

Menthos,
Every problem has a solution; if there is no solution, there is a problem.

Hello,
at the command prompt under DOS, type dir /w
A:\>dir /w
and check if the file fdisk.exe is present on the diskette.

Unfortunately, fdisk.exe is not present.

Here is the resulting listing:
A:\dir /w

Volume in drive A has no label
Volume Serial Number is 2A87-6CE1
Directory of A:\

EGA2.CPI EGA3.CPI EGA.CPI KEYB.COM KEYBOARD.SYS
KEYBRD2.SYS KEYBRD3.SYS KEYBRD4.SYS MODE.COM COMMAND.COM DISPLAY.SYS AUTOEXE.BAT CONFIG.SYS

13 files 448 bytes
0 dir 888.320 bytes free

Is there a specific MSDOS startup diskette available for download?
Thank you in advance.

Indeed,
you can try to download from this site:

http://delrisco.free.fr/edr_boot.html
with a bit of luck, there will be fdisk.

Hello
I am on XP and I was on Linux
I want to uninstall LILO.
I deleted my Linux partitions, I shouldn't have because I could have uninstalled LILO by typing in Terminal lilo -U
In DOS with a Millennium boot disk
when I type
A: >\fisk /mbr nothing happens and LILO that is on my XP partition appears at every startup..

Thank you for giving me the answer

The command fdisk /mbr works only on versions lower than WinXP (DOS/95/98/NT)
I am currently looking for the procedure for XP, a little patience!
