Hello.
The drum or photoconductor (tambour) is an aluminum cylinder coated with a photosensitive silicon layer.
The drum undergoes an initial uniform charge of about 1000 volts through ionization of the surrounding air.
To eliminate ozone production, the corona wire grid device was replaced in the early 2000s by a slightly conductive foam roller that performs the electrostatic charging of the drum.
This operation places the surface of the drum in an electrostatic state that repels the toner.
