HP IPAQ 6515 German change language

Solved

Hello,

Well, I have a problem

I bought an HP IPAQ 6515 at an auction, but it's in German

I thought: "It should be easy to change it to French"

But it's been a week now that I've been browsing the forums and I still can't find the right solution (I've already reinstalled Windows twice)

So if a kind soul can give me some help, I'd be grateful because I'm going in circles

Thank you all

Bye
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.3

Rafmos, I tried your instructions without success

However, I continued to search the English-speaking forums and found a bit of a barbaric and potentially dangerous solution
I took the risk and it worked for me

Basically, you download the latest update for your IPAQ 6515 in the current language of your IPAQ and the update in the language you want to have

In my case, English update 1.21 and French update 1.23

Run the files so they create 2 folders on c:\IPAQ with nbf files, ...

Then launch the English update, and just before the file copying starts, you copy and paste the nbf files from the French update into the English folder and accept to overwrite the current files of course

The update will continue normally and miraculously, your ipaq should be in French

I am in no way responsible for any crashes of your IPAQ

Ah well, that's great. Thank you very much for this information. Because I had this method on my forum but it was intended for the hx 2xxx models. So thank you very much. I'm going to write this in my instructions. That it also works for the 6515! If ever the instructions: http://informatique.eurogoo.com/pda-pocket-pc-palm-etc-f7/marche-a-suivre-pour-changer-la-langue-d-un-ipaq-hx-2xxx-t161.htm

Sure. So, could you let me know which model you did it with? That way I can note it down in my procedure!

      Thank you.

      Hello, psykopat7,

Really impressive, this solution works nyckel, I just tested it on my iPAQ 114 classic which was in English and no issues.

Here’s my procedure (just in case):

      - Download the two ROMs (here for the 114 classic --> English (sp38871.exe) and French (sp38993.exe) from HP’s website)
      - Unzip the two “*.exe” files into two separate folders (using winrar for example, right-click “extract to sp...”,) you should have several files including one *.nbf (this is the rom)

      - then create two folders:

      For my part:
      \rom ang\
      \rom fr\
(for convenience, for the next steps, open these two folders in two windows)

      - Place the files you just unzipped into the corresponding folders.
      - Open the folder where your HP’s original language is located (mine is English) and launch the update software “hpRUU.exe” or another.

      - Click “next” - “next”

      - Copy the ROM file of the desired language (here French) --> \rom fr\HPImage.nbf (right-click copy)

      - Once you click “Update” paste the file into “\rom ang\” and overwrite the file.

!! The update may take a few minutes and may seem to hang, but that's not the case, let it run.

PS: A huge thank you again to you “psykopat7” for this solution.

Go check this topic, guys are talking about a different model but the principle should probably be the same. I hope you find how to solve your issue. Sorry I couldn't do more for you, but it's getting clearer now, so good luck and keep us updated.

Thank you, but I can't seem to create a "boot loader" on this damn Ipaq.

On other forums, I've seen that for other products from the brand, you have to press the contacts+mail keys, but that doesn't work.

      Waiting for a response.

Also, the files to modify are not the same as for 6315

      I am stuck again

If anyone knows how to change a German IPAQ 6515 to a French 6515, I am interested

Hello, I just tried to follow your procedure but unfortunately, I can't find either the numbers and letter U6515 by u6515A or the lines in the IPAQCSDK.dll files. Could you explain this more precisely or send me a copy of your transformed French ROM? Thank you.

I have performed all the operations, and when I send the new ROM to IPAQ, it tells me that the image of the HPRUU.ini file is not valid and therefore refuses to perform the update... What should I do? Help!!!!

    Hello
I don't know if it will be possible for you, but I had a Bouygues ROM and followed a tutorial that was nested in a topic on GPS Passion, which restored the HP ROM without operator customization
There is a topic on ROM updates; the principle is to take the French HP ROM, for example, and launch the bootloader that goes with the device, and in that topic http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23429&whichpage=1
but the problem is that there are 170 pages and I can't remember where it is. I wish you good luck, and 170 pages are worth it to recover an iPaq in French

    Hello everyone,

I have created a step-by-step guide on how to change the language of a PDA. If anyone is interested: http://informatique.eurogoo.com/pda-pocket-pc-palm-etc-f7/comment-changer-la-langue-dun-pda-marche-a-suivre-pas-a-pas-t27.htm.

Unless you buy the XP CD and reinstall it, I don't see how because the OS is delivered for a specific country and in its language, but I'll see if there's a solution (although I'm pretty sure it's impossible). Otherwise, have you tried reinstalling it (you need the CDs) but choosing French? Even then, I'm honestly doubtful, just imagine, it would be too good otherwise.

Thank you for the response, but I saw on several forums techniques to change the language of the Windows Pocket, but none worked (different products, wrong manipulation, ...)

My reinstallation was done via an .exe from the HP website

So if someone could detail a working technique to set an IPAQ 6515 to French, that would be really nice

    Catch you later.

Have you checked the HP website because there is certainly a topic about it in their support?
