Access denied on shared Excel file

The users access a file server on their respective directories.
Some users can no longer save changes to Excel files, receiving the message "Access denied, contact your administrator."
I'm leaning toward a problem at the user profile level, but I don't know where it could be failing.
The users are working on Office 2013 SP1 and Win7 SP1 patched, so no issues there.
