a BR = Blue-Ray and BD = Blue-ray Disk... (same thing)

this is based on a 24" computer screen
---- Ripped in single pass ----
DVD-RIP of 700mb looks bad
DVD-RIP of 1.4gb is mediocre
DVD-RIP of 3gb is good
BR-RIP of 700mb looks bad (no difference from a 700mb DVD-RIP)
BR-RIP of 1.4gb is mediocre (no difference from a 1.4gb DVD-RIP)
BR-RIP of 3gb is good (no difference from a 3gb DVD-RIP)
---- Ripped in double pass ----
DVD-RIP of 700mb is mediocre
DVD-RIP of 1.4gb is good
DVD-RIP of 3gb is not much better than the 1.4gb so it's pointless to rip at 3gb,... (too big for nothing!)
BR-RIP of 700mb is mediocre (no difference from a 700mb DVD-RIP)
BR-RIP of 1.4gb is good (no difference from a 1.4gb DVD-RIP)
BR-RIP of 3gb is stunning
-----------------------
not all rippers rip in double pass (2P),... because it takes twice as long to do! it is even possible to do 3P but I don’t see much difference between 2P and 3P
the usefulness of "multi pass" is that once the encoding is done, it re-checks the image to try to correct errors between the original file and the file it just encoded.
PS; for those who will watch their RIP on 40" (TV) screens, I advise them to choose films of at least 1.4gb
