How to read a .odt document?

I can't open a document that I just received as an attachment.
It has an extension I've never seen: odt
How can I open it?
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

    What software reads files with the .odt extension?

    It is the free office suite Open Office version 2.

    If you don't have it, but you have Word, you should ask the sender to create their document in a compatible .doc format or install an extension that allows Word to open it: https://www.commentcamarche.net/applis-sites/bureautique/1407-ouvrir-un-fichier-odt-avec-word/
