Network card drivers under Ubuntu

Hello,

after successfully installing Ubuntu 13.10 on my laptop without any problem, my partner, impressed, asked me to do the same on hers.

As a precaution, I installed it "beside" Vista. Problem: while, with the live-CD (well, I booted it from a USB stick) the Wi-Fi worked very well, once Ubuntu is permanently installed, the network card apparently isn’t detected and I’ve browsed forums, but no tutorial has worked so far.

It’s not possible to connect to the internet by cable either (we share Wi-Fi with our neighbor) so I don’t know if it would work with one.

Her PC is an HP Compaq 6735s
The Wi-Fi card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n

I haven’t tested ndiswrapper yet, but without internet on the PC I’m not sure how to proceed...

Do you see a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and responses.

    Hi,

You have the explanations there: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Ubuntu.2FDebian

    Ubuntu Community Documentation

Ubuntu also has a page detailing the process of installing Broadcom wireless drivers on their community documentation.

If you have internet access on the device that you want to install the b43 driver onto, follow this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#b43%20-%20Internet%20access .

If you do not have internet access on the device that has a b43 supported broadcom wireless chipset and would like to use b43, follow this link instead: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#b43%20-%20No%20Internet%20access.

Note that you can only follow one of the two guides, not both.

A noter que le plus simple serait de pouvoir te connecter en filiaire juste le temps d'installer le driver.

    Thanks to both of you.

Understood, it comes down to installing linux-firmware-nonfree and/or firmware-b43.
All that remains is to hope that the wired connection will work.

Reply tomorrow. I’ll drop by here again for a precise update.
