Hello everyone,
I want to open some very old Microsoft Office Word 97-2003 documents, processed in 1998, on the antique computer at my work. I haven't changed employers, but the documents created in 2002 open just fine, while those from 1998 do not. File extension .doc.
The Word page opens, and a warning says that "the file type has been blocked by a registry policy setting..." It directs me to article 922850, which leads to a page that I don’t understand, and I also fear that I’ll mess up my computer. They mention that a bad move can be dangerous for future use. Courageous but not reckless!
If someone could help me, that would be fantastic because the documents in question are important for my future.
Thanks in advance.
SH

      Dear barale61,
Thank you for your quick response. I was a bit slow to reply, but before reaching out, I installed the thing you mentioned. During the test, my document still wouldn't open. Is there anything else I need to do?
      Thank you for your help.

    You have additional explanations here:
    https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-6183318-comment-desactiver-les-parametres-du-registre#top

And the explanations on the methods here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/word/opening-file-blocked-by-registry-policy

Depending on your installed version of Word (2003, 2007, 2010, 2013), the methods may be different.

      Thank you.
I followed the various links and then downloaded this one:
      http://fr.openoffice.org/
So my documents opened, oddly formatted but complete. I copied and pasted them into my current Word (I think it's XP).
      Now, just reformatting and done.
Really, thank you for taking this thorn out of my side.
