I just bought a THOMSON HTS4500W home theater system, which is sold without a player (exactly what I was looking for) and comes with an optical cable and a coaxial cable. The instructions are very minimal... I couldn't get it to work. I connected the optical cable directly to the TV and the subwoofer and tried all sources (OPT, AUX...) but no sound is coming out. The TV is a Sony.

    Did you remove the caps from the optical cable with your fingers?
