I have a half-solution: right-click on the Carto Explorer 3 desktop shortcut, go to Properties, Compatibility tab, and choose Windows 98, the miracle should happen... happy? Let it be known!!!

same problem with the latest version 1.09, still the same error message "unknown ADO error, please update MDAC (minimum 2.6)" ...except that under Vista, MDAC is at level 6!

To my knowledge, there is no patch for Vista, only the latest version 1.09, which does not solve the problem for me.
The only patch offered is a link to a Microsoft update for the DAC; this patch has no effect on Vista where the MDAC is replaced by the WDAC at version 6.0.
I submitted the case to Bayo support; below is their response... I want to clarify that, contrary to Bayo support's assumptions, my Vista version was not installed with a low-quality master installation OS, as I performed a complete installation from a Vista Premium Edition CD.
For my part, I would believe in the 3D cartographer when the developers better adapt to Vista's evolutions; it's a shame, it's a nice product.

The issue is caused by the DAC module of your operating system.
When the Bayo software tries to open the database, it will use a series of .dll files.
Either the necessary .dll file(s) is missing, or its integrity is not the same as expected by the developers, hence the inability to open the database file.
The MDAC error is a standard error message in the Bayo software code that has not been updated for Vista. However, what it indicates is partially true, the DAC module on your machine is not configured the same way as the full version of the DAC 6.0 module that Microsoft developed for Vista.
This can be explained if you are using a laptop with Vista installed via a Master installation; manufacturers tend to minimize installation sizes.

Currently, it is impossible to download DAC 6.0 from the Microsoft site for a reason I do not know.

Unfortunately, I am unable to get your Bayo software to work on this machine at the moment. As long as it is not possible to download the complete version of the DAC module, we will be at an impasse.

However, I want to clarify that the problem does not come from the Bayo software, which works perfectly on any version of Windows Vista as long as the DAC 6.0 module is installed in its entirety

Hello,I have recently equipped myself with the new Vista version. What a disappointment it was to insert the two CDs of BAYO carto exploreur 3 and be unable to read them. It is absolutely abnormal, given the prices at which they are offered, to only be able to read them with older versions of Windows. What short-term solutions do you recommend?

If Carto Explorer doesn't work well under Vista but functions correctly under XP, let's not be mistaken; it's not
Vista that's at fault, but rather Bayo, who is not investing properly and hasn't managed to evolve since the advent of Vista. Almost no updates, a lack of resources or will... or both.

For my part, I'm not ready to go back to XP; I'd rather do without Carto Explorer while waiting for IGN to awaken from its slumber and entrust its maps to a more efficient software publisher... a shame, a beautiful product unmatched elsewhere.

With Carto Explorer 3 and the patch from 01/24/2008, it works. However, to install maps from Carto Explorer 3 (Carto Explorer II maps), even with the corresponding patch, it doesn't work. I don't know the solution.

I installed Carto Explorer 3 on Vista at the beginning of this month without any problem, and everything is working well. This includes the data transfer (maps and tracks) to my PDA.

Hello, I accidentally transferred the maps from Carto Explorer 3 from the CD to my hard drive (file/transfer) on the desktop. I would like to do the opposite so that my work libraries use the data from the CD and not from the hard drive.
In trying to transfer the maps back using the same transfer box to a file on my local disk to no longer have them on the desktop, it became impossible to display the maps without Carto.
Please save my life. How can I do this?

Following the machine change (from XP to Vista), I am unable to load Carto Explorer 3.

I have updated to version 3.18 as indicated in the Bayo FAQ, and I was able to load the first CD of Carto Explorer 3, but I cannot load the maps.

Inspired by the messages and explanations above, I set the BayoTools.exe file to Windows 98, as well as Carto Explorer 3, by right-clicking on the shortcut and adjusting the properties and compatibility settings (Windows 98 instead of XP). I launched BayoTools.exe and the map appeared on the screen, but the information came from the CD.

Then I did: File, Transfer the map folder from the CD to the hard drive in the Bayo\ocarte folder.

I now have the maps on the machine. I don’t know if switching to 98 was crucial in this operation, but I’m not going to restart to check!

I had to reformat my PC. Everything was working perfectly until I tried to install Carto Explorer 3. The PC refuses to boot as if there were a virus. I'm sure it's Carto Explorer that's causing a serious system error because the PC was rebooting fine before and I had installed the antivirus. Does anyone have any idea on how to avoid spending another day reformatting and reinstalling everything? Thanks.

Without it constituting a justification for anything, reading your various posts regarding issues with non-cracked versions of the CDs makes it clear that some prefer to use other solutions regarding these CDs. It is downright scandalous (I wouldn't dare say immoral) to sell CDs for almost €50 without being able to guarantee their proper functioning and longevity if the hardware and operating systems evolve!!! And we pretend to moralize (?!) with laws like Hadopi!!! It makes for an expensive disposable CD!!! Everything is really going in the same direction!!!

To install Carto Explorer on Vista, you need to use the Windows "Super Administrator." The rights assigned to the standard administrator are not sufficient. By searching online, you will find how to enable your "Super Administrator" as a standard user in your user list; otherwise, when running the installation program, right-click to "run as administrator."
It's the same under Windows 7.
