Virus scan not installed properly or poorly installed

Good evening everyone,

My problem is as follows.

I have installed Virus Scan on my PC. The installation went smoothly, and memory and disk checks were performed correctly.

Seems no problem at first, but:

1) If I view the information in the 'Security Center', the antivirus protection is disabled. I have the following comment: "MacAfee reports that it is disabled...."

2) If I right-click the VirusScan icon in the taskbar, "Disable real-time protection" is greyed out.

3) If I uninstall VirusScan and check the content of the Security Center again, I still have the comment "MacAfee reports that it is disabled" even though the antivirus was uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs...

Strange!

What can I do?

Thank you

Best regards.

Lahire

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i installs a component called "Access Protection." From the VirusScan console, double-click on "Access Protection." A dialog window "Access Protection Properties" appears. At the bottom of this window there is a checkbox "Prevent McAfee services from being stopped." Simply unchecking this box disables "on-access scanning." Now that you know where this configuration comes from, I propose to recheck this option.

Best regards,

I went to the VirusScan console and to Protection when accessed, the checkbox for "decocheter" is checked but greyed out.

After changing the motherboard and the HDD, I just reinstalled the Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0.0 executable.
Obviously, the antivirus updates are not applied yet, so I download them.
Everything goes fine. Windows (XP Pro) is happy and tells me that my antivirus is up to date, except that after the next reboot I have a forbidden sign on the icon indicating that Access Scan is disabled.
When I try to enable it by right-clicking (or in the Viruscan console, the status changes only for a fraction of a second.
Obviously, now Windows and my firewall have detected this anomaly and tell me that my system is at risk.
I should note that I have Spybot and Zone Alarm.
Thank you for your help!

Continuation of events... After reinstalling the application and updating it, the problem no longer occurs (well... probably until the next restart, who knows?)
However, when I try to scan the drives, I get the message:
The required virus definition files are missing or corrupted. Unable to initialize the scanning engine. Reinstall the product.
Would that mean anything to anyone?
Thanks!

Finally, despair got the better of me: I uninstalled McAfee and installed Avira Antivir, which doesn't seem bad...

Note that for the checkbox "Prevent McAfee services from stopping," checking or unchecking this box allows the access analysis to be re-enabled, which sometimes disables itself.

I've had the same problem for two weeks since upgrading to McAfee 8.5... did you find anything?

I also just upgraded to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i. Everything works fine except I can't temporarily disable real-time scanning... The option is grayed out when I right-click the little shield. If I open the VirusScan console, I also can't disable real-time scanning... Does anyone have a solution?!

Right-click on the small icon in the taskbar, "Disable analysis during access," and oh joy, you can manipulate all the filth on earth :)

Precisely since version 8.5i this option is no longer possible; it is grayed out ...

I found that it was enough to disable the "protection during access" first, wait a few moments, and the "disable analysis during access" option is no longer greyed out ;)
