Open XML or Open Document?

I need your opinion, what do you recommend for an office pack RT (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote), Open XLM or Open Document?

I see too much unnecessary chatter online so I'm addressing you. :)

    At first, we are asked to choose between one of the two mentioned in the first message, I have no particular preference, do you have one?

    Personally, I would lean towards Open XML, but, is that good? But above all, what are the differences?

    (.docx extension for XML or .odt for Document)
