The shutdown button on an Ordissimo computer is not working anymore

Hello,
My 85-year-old aunt bought a laptop ORDISSIMO.
The only way to turn off the machine is to press the power button.
Since this morning, this doesn't work anymore and the laptop stays on all the time.
After checking various forums, it seems that the operating system is LINUX/Debian.
As for me, I only know Windows, my apologies to Linux fans.
Could someone help my aunt?
Thanks, guys.

It's a good one, to shut down a Linux computer that doesn't want to turn off normally, there is indeed one thing that works every time as long as you can open a terminal, which is to type shutdown in it and hit enter.

Try this instead:

shutdown -h

It stops the machine after shutting down the system.

Otherwise, check out this page:

Thank you for your response, but I am 2.5 hours away from the computer by car.

So, over the phone, I explained to my 85-year-old aunt how to unplug the computer, then remove and reinsert the battery, and then plug the computer back in, and it worked again.

Fortunately, because I couldn't see myself explaining your solution to her, especially since the keyboard was locked; she would have been quite at a loss to do anything.

Thanks anyway.
