Hello,
I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ61 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium
And for a few months now, every time I start it, I'm informed that my version of Windows 7 is not genuine...
It displays at the bottom of my screen:
"Windows 7
number 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine."
I haven't done anything that could have caused this (formatting, rebooting, etc....)
I did some research online, and I discovered that my product key was invalid. I then downloaded WINFOKEYS which gave me the product key for my computer, and when I tried to reactivate Windows 7, the following message appeared:
"An error occurred while attempting to activate Windows.
Error code: 0xC004E003"
What does this mean? And how can I resolve this error and get back my genuine version of Windows 7?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the link, but why is it giving me a troubleshooting resolution for Vista when I'm on W7? What works for Vista will work for W7?
Anonymous user
Basically, yes, because Win7 is the finalized version of Vista.
