Issue with a filter, merged cell

Hello,

I have a problem with a filter in Excel. The table has 2 columns, on the left are the names of the students (tata, toto, titi, ...) and on the right are their grades (this is just an example).

I set up a filter so that I can select a student and see all their grades, but that's where the problem arises. The cell where the student's name appears is merged across 5 rows, and when I select the student's name, it only shows me the grade from the first line and not the others!

Is there anyone knowledgeable in Excel who could give me a solution?

  @StormHIt is enough to explain to the said users that they will need to consult two files each time: one that looks nice with plenty of merged cells, and another that performs the calculations and produces the results, without merged cells.
  
  However, let me remind you that we can achieve the same appearance, without the downsides of merging, by using the horizontal alignment "centered across columns"!
  Unfortunately, there is no equivalent for centering across multiple rows...
  
  And when you ask me if I have "an idea", I don't even know what your problem is: you haven't attached any files!

I therefore make you another suggestion:
In the same file, you build a Database (a real one) in one sheet and a consultation sheet in another sheet ...
... somewhat like this technical sheet!

  First of all, thank you for your continued interest in my problem. I will try to see what I can do regarding this sheet, but the "hiccup" is that users will regularly change cells in this database since the "consultation sheet," and unfortunately, a link to the database tab seems a bit complicated to me... But I could be wrong, since I'm an intern, I have time dedicated to this kind of research, so I will see after my week off if I can still use your suggestion :)
  Today I have too much to do before going on vacation to take care of it, and I'm sorry about that :)

Hello,

You just need to follow the basic rules for a data table:
- one header row and only data below
- no merging
- no empty rows
- and if multiple rows have the same value, it must be repeated. If it's empty, for Excel it's empty and not filled (makes sense)

  Idiot... Not you, but Excel. It's still logical that x merged cells = the same value in the x cells, and not "one value in the first, the others empty"...

  @MateoIt may make sense for a user reading the table; it no longer makes sense at all for sorting and filtering operations specifically designed to leverage databases, based on a simple principle: no empty rows or columns, no merged cells.
  It's not at all stupid: it's a programming architecture that follows strict rules that must be adhered to.
  If we followed your reasoning, there are dozens of other rules that would need to be singled out: input formats, parentheses and quotes in formulas, data validation, mixed and absolute references, incrementations, etc.

Hello.

You'll understand right away:
- Sorting, filtering, and searching are manipulations that only apply to databases.
- A database, by definition, contains neither empty rows nor empty columns, nor duplicates in the first column, nor merged cells.
This confirms that there can be no filter with merged cells!
Unless maybe with a macro; but I'm not skilled in that...
