recovering sms from a mobile without a sim card

Hello,

My friend is being accused, according to him, without his knowledge, by a woman who claims to have been having an affair with him for several months.
However, he is adamant that this is not true, that they have only discussed via messages to catch up, and seeing this woman's intentions, he asked her to leave him alone and that it would be better if they left it at that.
As a result, we requested detailed bills from SFR, but since we canceled the subscription last week, they can't send them to me. Do you know what recourse I might have?
We also want to recover the messages on my friend's phone, but without a SIM card, is it possible to retrieve them in any way since they are stored in the phone's internal memory?
We also need to meet this woman tomorrow since she claims to have very explicit messages; how can I know if they are authentic? If the recipient hasn't been tampered with?

What is the type of phone, brand, and model?

We can possibly see them by connecting the phone to a PC.
Otherwise, by putting another SIM card into the phone.

However, it does not have a formal SMS identification solution; for the recipient, it's enough to check the number because even if the name appears, we always have access to the number with an SMS, no hidden number.
The only way to certify that an SMS is authentic is to request a copy of the SMS sent between such and such number from the operator.....only a judge, under a valid pretext of investigation, is authorized to request it.

Indeed, SMS messages are stored on the phone. Some phones can start without a SIM card, allowing access to apps on the phone, SMS, call history, etc., while others cannot.
If the phone does not start without a SIM card, just use yours. You will have access to the SMS stored on the phone.

It's a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. We wanted to do that, but in mine and his new one, there are micro SIM cards, but I can ask family, it's not a problem. However, the phone turns on without a SIM card, but it had deleted their conversation back then, it was already not on his phone even before that. We are looking for a way to recover them. As for the messages, according to this woman I'm going to meet tomorrow, they are indeed from him, it's really his name and phone number that appear in the recipient field.
I don't know who to believe, especially since when I looked at the last detailed bill available (from April 15 to May 14), there were 77 messages he would have sent to this woman, and his only explanation was a mistake from SFR. When he asked SFR about that, they replied that it was possible they counted more than one message per send depending on the size of the message, but he's far from writing novels...
