Go to the device manager
Right-click on the relevant device
Update driver
Install from a list or specified location
Do not search
Have disk
Browse
Go to the unzipped driver folder --> R134779
Folder --> wdm
Select the file --> sthda.inf
Restart.

Give the hardware ID number.

What is the brand and model of the PC?
Is the operating system indeed XP?

Actually, following a friend's advice, I installed a standard basic sound card in my DELL XPS 420.
I launched the driver with the associated CD.
The Windows XP system recognized the device.
Now everything is working fine.

I have regained sound like before.

I applied the procedure even though it wasn't exactly the same driver.
It was indeed in the list of the device in question.
I ran the search to find the correct driver.
I found the wdm folder, but I couldn't access the subdirectory sthda.inf.

Rxxxx/vdm.

I still tried and restarted, but no result.
