Question

Hello everyone,

A friend claims that by typing a code like **#blablabla** or something of that sort on his mobile phone, he can find out if he is being wiretapped or not :S

I'm not convinced by his theory, so I would like to get your opinions on the matter, and if he is telling the truth, would any of you happen to know the code in question??

Conditions for telephone tapping  As part of a criminal or correctional investigation, the investigating judge may order, for a duration of less than 4 months, to carry out telephone taps. Renewal  The telephone tapping can be renewed under the same conditions regarding form and duration.  Procedure for tapping  Taps are carried out by telecommunications services under the control of the investigating judge or a judicial police officer.  A report is established for each recording, stating the date and the start and end times.  The recordings are placed under seal.  They are then transcribed by the investigating judge or a judicial police officer.  Correspondences in a foreign language are transcribed into French with the assistance of an interpreter.  Only elements useful to the investigation are included in the file.  After the transcriptions are established, the recordings are destroyed under the authority of the public prosecutor or the attorney general.  A report of the operation is established. Where do you guys come from to imagine such stupid things? You must have grown up in front of a TV, it’s not possible otherwise!!!

This is just nonsense, you're going off the deep end with your IMEI codes!!! It’s nothing more than the phone's serial number, it serves many purposes but it contains no dynamic information (like the number of SMS received or the number of times you've been listened to)!!!

It’s totally impossible to know if you’re being tapped or not, except when the judge tells you! The same goes for landlines; the voltage and current of the line won’t let you know whether you are or aren’t!

Moreover, regarding echoes (what we call “loop”) and crackling (what we call “ground”), it’s nothing more than a virtual or physical connection problem!

Stop believing all the nonsense that’s being fed to you, have a bit of common sense!!!

And you, smart guy, changing your phone and SIM card is fine, but why do you think they ask for an ID? You're a funny one!

Also, if you’re dealing, I hope you get caught; it’ll teach you a lesson…

To all the skeptics and other disciples of Candide!

Know that it is perfectly possible to intercept and listen to a phone conversation made from a mobile phone. But to say that it is a common practice among various state organizations is false!
To get to that point, a judicial order is required, as well as very sophisticated logistics... so
if there must be any listening, know that it will not be about the sweet nothings you whisper to your partner, or even
because you downloaded the latest Madonna CD...

On the other hand, regarding so-called random listening, it is not done by humans, but by "bots"
tasked with recognizing different series, or combinations of words. These series and combinations will then enrich a thesaurus
that evolves over time. When a word spoken in a (listened) conversation matches one of the keywords in the thesaurus,
an automatic recording of the conversation is made. The recording is then listened to again by humans
to qualify it, meaning to define a context... Defining the context means distinguishing between:
"My dear, you are a bomb" and "My dear, you have the bomb". (The bot will have initiated the process only because of the word bomb...)
The recorded conversations are then destroyed.

Concerning the IMEI code, it does not allow for this; it is static (except in very rare exceptions... but that assumes that your phone has gone back to the operator and has been modified) and provides only information related to the brand of the phone, connections to a given telephone network...

Lastly, it can sometimes happen that so-called "ricochet" listening occurs, meaning:
You turn on your mobile to check your messages and you hear your neighbor ordering a pizza; this is due to
network saturation. Usually, as soon as you press any button on your mobile, the communication is cut off (and you no longer hear your neighbor...)

To summarize:
- true! it is possible to listen to a mobile
- false! it is not a common practice and the cops (or others) have other things to do
- true! you can sometimes intercept a conversation from a mobile, but it is very rare and totally random
- false! the IMEI code does not allow you to do that (in theory) At least not as presented in the discussion: that is to say
if the code changes, then we are being listened to... that’s not how it works!

PS: Regarding SMS!

All the SMS you send are transmitted by your operators (where they are stored during transmission to the recipient)
So if there’s interception (or redirection of an SMS, you need to check with the operator).

The test is easy to do if you have 2 phones.

On the first phone, you activate "delivery reports" then you send an SMS to the
second phone (which must be turned off, THIS IS IMPORTANT) the sent SMS will be stored on the operator's servers.
After a few days (on average 4), you will see that the SMS could not be sent and the sending mechanism will be automatically canceled.

This does not mean that you are being spied on! Simply, SMS are kept for delivery!

I am an import-export broker (sugar, wood, raw minerals, aircraft, etc.) which means I prospect internationally and negotiate contracts that can amount to tens or even hundreds of millions, earning commissions in the process. When setting up my business, I researched economic espionage with the economic division of the French counter-espionage services (they are in the directory...). Assuming that the Achilles' heel of a businessman is his mobile phone, I believe I can shed some light on current practices.
1) Government surveillance: Your mobile phone can be tapped at the request of a judicial authority, for example, during the investigation of a criminal case. You can of course be listened to by actors dependent on the ministry of the interior and/or the military (and that is earned...) if you threaten internal security or jeopardize a French interest (military, geopolitical, or geostrategic) through your activities (terrorism/intelligence with a foreign power, etc.)

2) International surveillance: Your communications can be intercepted by a foreign service (even an internal communication within France). To confirm this, do a little research on the American ECHELON program controlled by the US government through a service called NSA.
ECHELON is an automated system that, through ultra-sensitive antennas, intercepts all wireless communications (telephone relays, satellite, radio waves, etc.) and automatically triggers the recording, transcription, and analysis of a communication if a keyword like "bomb," "Bin Laden," etc., is mentioned.

Let's start over from the beginning, apparently I wasn't clear enough!

1- In the city, it can work, in the countryside, much less... Meh... Forget about the small radios that just need the antenna to be unfolded to pick up signals; we're not on a deserted island, and the equipment is much more powerful than you think! I can even assure you otherwise; it's in the countryside that the chances of pinpoint accuracy are the highest, as there are many more radio and electromagnetic waves. The concentration of frequencies is lower in the countryside than in the city, but that's just logical reasoning..., nevertheless, the difference isn't huge.

2- Tunnels, basements, underground parking lots... Luckily, I specified that we weren't in a Jack Bauer episode! Of course, a mobile phone can be tracked underground; it depends on the concrete structure and its ability to filter waves. Not all structures are made of reinforced concrete.

3- A battery is anonymous... I never said otherwise. You just forgot one small thing (that you've been neglecting all along): The battery emits waves in the mobile. Even when dead, it continues to power the phone, allowing it to emit a signal. Without a battery, there's no signal; without a signal, no location. It's pretty straightforward.

3- The SIM card... Of course, it’s the operator that provides it, not the candy seller! Changing the SIM card allows you to launch a new signal and lose the old one, which complicates and delays tracking, but it doesn't prevent it. I didn't say that by changing your SIM card, you wouldn't be locatable; regularly changing your SIM card slows down the search because your trace is temporarily lost as you change signals. The key is to change your SIM card regularly. You need to read correctly.

4- An operator that allows you to remain anonymous... All operators allow you to stay anonymous; "customer information" is strictly confidential, as stated in the contract, except in cases of a summons issued by a judge. There, it's up to you to do what it takes not to LEAVE TIME for the authorities to locate you (see previous article for the steps).

One last thing! You don't need a GSM or a GPS to be locatable; a simple mobile phone is enough. It's a matter of WAVES; the localization, a walkie-talkie would almost suffice! I'm exaggerating, of course... But don't listen to those who tell you that only GSMs or phones equipped with GPS can be tracked... ALL mobile phones are trackable.

So now, let's stop watching TV, and don't get paranoid either. Setting up a localization is costly for the state, so don't believe everything you're told; there needs to be a valid reason within the context of a criminal investigation or dismantling a network of traffickers (drugs, arms, children...). You don't just tap someone's phone because a bank was robbed! And even less a spotty teenager who smokes 3 joints a week or a jealous person wanting to spy on their partner...

People are skeptical when we say that phone tapping is very common today, especially in Belgium and France. Since September 11, privacy protection laws have changed in European states, thus facilitating wiretaps; (no one ever talks about it)...

In the city where I live, they have their own wiretapping office, contrary to what people think; the cops are not just around the corner in a van... They have wiretapping offices where they track your movements; spy on your calls; and those of your contacts. The mayor of my city even installed an armada of cameras, thus shattering the last hope of privacy protection. All this for what?

Thanks to their office, many traffickers have been caught (too bad for them) but also honest citizens have been tracked by the cops!

What you should know is that technology is advancing so fast that even Mr. Average can tap anyone.

Proof; a friend managed to wiretap the police station right in front of his house; and thus I was able to find out that there was an investigation on me and that I was also being wiretapped...(lol) Even now, they are still unaware, and it’s been almost a year;

For those who want to know if they are really being wiretapped; just find their wiretapping office; and install a spyware software there.

Or for those who don’t want to be wiretapped, just buy a signal jammer, it blocks all frequencies.

For those who think they are too paranoid; advice: stay that way; these bastards are watching us all; but if you don’t commit any crime!!! Freedom is an illusion they have succeeded in making us believe…
