Hello,
I have a Canon MG5250 printer with separate cartridges from the print head.
The problem is that every time I replace one of the cartridges, or after a certain period (for example, 10 days), or as soon as I unplug it from the mains, it performs a deep cleaning of the print head which must consume a significant amount of ink because the pads (which I had cleaned) become very dirty after this process.
This cleaning is a real waste and especially unnecessary when the printer is used sporadically.
How can we access the printer's hidden settings to permanently disable this automatic cleaning (the BIOS)?
Because it's up to me to decide if the printer needs cleaning or not (degradation of quality), there is always manual cleaning! There is no risk of the head clogging because I never leave my printer unused for too long, hence the uselessness of this cleaning.
I think I'm not the only one asking this question.
Thank you in advance for your help if you know a solution
Best regards.

Unfortunately, there is no reliable software solution or workaround to fight against this. For my part, I found a substitute solution by using generic cartridges that give me complete satisfaction. Also, to avoid cleaning the heads, I try to print a document once a week so that the machine doesn't have time to perform a cleaning. This is therefore an economical alternative since the generics are significantly cheaper than the originals. I will no longer purchase any equipment from Canon from now on.

I’m bumping my topic 6 months later because this cleaning process that lasts at least 3 minutes after a power outage or after a certain number of days is really annoying.
There must be a solution. I know there are hidden settings. The problem is, I don't know how to access the printer's intrinsic settings.
This is the only BIG flaw that needs to be addressed. -
I dread having to print every time. The cleaning takes 5 minutes, so I have to wait for this useless cleaning job to finish before I can get my ultra-urgent printout. Years of my life lost. I NEVER buy original cartridges, always the cheapest ones possible because half of the ink is wasted. You must not unplug the printer (neither USB nor electricity) because otherwise, you're in for another round. And sometimes, making a copy first before printing can help avoid the cleaning.
This cleaning is meant to increase ink consumption because printer manufacturers make their money on consumables and not on the equipment sold at a loss or with no profit. To avoid this, never buy branded cartridges. -
I have the same model as you; I got duped by Les Numériques, who gave the printer a good rating. For me, the solution is not found; I just know that Canon has lost a customer.

Up
It is about fighting against planned obsolescence and saving ink. If you keep cleaning it unnecessarily, it will eventually get stuck. -
Same!!!
How do you disable that damn cleaning that drains the ink cartridges when there is absolutely no need to clean!
It's unbelievable that no one provides a solution, it's pathetic! -
Same as you!
I never turn off the printer and I use it at least once a week.
Today it was jackpot! 1 cleaning before starting the print, 1 cleaning when I added paper to the tray (I had printed 4 pages in black and white, very little writing), 1 cleaning when it stopped printing to tell me that my cartridges might be empty!!! and 1 cleaning at the end of the printing.......
.......and since I did several print runs and that pesky machine did the same thing every time, hello waste!!!
I've been using generic cartridges for a long time. It’s a bit comforting!
Never again a Canon printer for me! -
No one has a solution?

Unfortunately, I still haven't found a solution; it's surprising that no one can tell us how to access the printer's intrinsic settings because they do exist.
I tried the solution of placing very sticky tape underneath the pads to block the pump's suction holes, but I can't condemn the pump since it remains inaccessible along with its hoses, even though I had almost disassembled everything. It turns out that the tape isn't very airtight because the pads are still quite dirty, and the noise from the pump became even more noticeable (because it's straining). I had to remove the tape, and now I find myself back at square one.
What's worse is that the printer made two successive cleanings: after the first, it indicated that the level of the blue cartridge is completely empty (I couldn't bypass this), so I replaced the supposedly empty cartridges, and then it went for a second deep cleaning, which dropped the level of a nearly full cartridge by 1/4...
