Question

Hello everyone, I'm a DJ and I've just created a small website using the 3D Flash Animator software. It seemed quite simple, especially for someone like me who doesn't know much about computers. When I uploaded my site online, when I tried to connect, it opened an "index of" page, so I renamed my first page to "index.html" and today I have a page filled with letters, signs, etc...

While reading other posts, I noticed that you were talking about the root of the site, but how do I find it? (in simple words...)

Hi,

to answer you generally, the root of the site is the folder that contains the entire site. When we talk about placing a folder "in the root," it's in that folder.

On your FTP, it's a folder. Either the one you connect to or a specific folder ('www'). In this case, your hosting provider should have indicated it to you.

For your site, it's its address (www.mywebsite.ext or www.host.ext/mysite/ or ...).

To find the root of yours, Kiki67100 will probably answer better than I can!

I don't believe a server (unless I'm mistaken) takes an index.swf.
You need to insert your Flash animation into an HTML document.

You say yourself "I uploaded my swf pages and that's it" but you also mention having HTML files (?), um, why are they created (?).

If it works on the PC, send everything in the folder that the software created for your site.

So far so good!!!   I managed to get my home page online, thank you...   The problem now is that my entry link doesn't work.   It stops the music when clicked but doesn’t open the new page.

Please tell us what the link points to.

We need to know if it is a relative or an absolute address.
Relative: regarding the folder that contains the displayed file (e.g., "/pages/page_01.html")
Absolute: it's the full address (e.g., "D:\my site\page_01.html" or "https://www.pagesjaunes.fr/")

There is a good chance that the link points to a local address (that of your PC).

If it's inside the Flash animation, the problem is the same.

You can also give us the URL of your site so we can diagnose the thing "in person". ;o)

This file does not exist on the server and even if it did, you wouldn't have permission to access it.

You need to specify a relative path "page_accueil_web_site_ludo-b.html" straightforward since this file is in the same folder as the page containing the link.
Or an absolute path "http://www.ludo-b.com/page_accueil_web_site_ludo-b.html".

The simplest is the relative one, otherwise you'll have to correct all the links before each publication. But there must be a Flash setting to do it automatically, or even a publishing tool. But that, I can't wrap my head around!

I'm coming to watch your menu.
It's the same for the other links. You always need to orient your link based on the address of the file that contains the link.

To access a file that is in a folder "folder/file_in_folder.html".
If you're pointing to a file in the folder that contains the folder of the current page, you need to go up one level with ".."
"../file_in_the_upper_level.html".

Let's imagine that for photos you've created a folder "photo" that contains two pages "photo_1.html", "photo_2.html"

To go from the menu to photo 1: "photo/photo_1.html"
From photo 1 to photo 2: "photo_2.html"
From photo 2 to menu: "../menu.html"

It would be wise to rename your home page with a shorter name... ;o)

In fact, as Dalida said, you need to link to a folder on the server, not from your computer c:\site... doesn't exist on the server, but on your computer c:\== hard drive. Otherwise, it's normal that it doesn't work. You need to modify the links on your FTP. What folder do you have? Example:
