Hello, I can install the EBP program (payroll + accounting + assets + sales management), but it only works for administrator users. It's impossible to start it on limited user accounts.
Message: The microkernel or Btrieve requester is not active.
The suggested manipulations do not work (double-clicking manually on Btrieve.reg)
I also tried granting access rights to all users on the software directories (c:/ebp, c:/program files/ebp, c:/pvsw) but nothing works
The problem persists on all types of PCs
Windows XP and EBP education license V9
As a training organization, it is not possible to allow trainees to have administrator accounts
Thank you for your help

Hello,
I encountered the same problem after installing my Compta 5 EBP (August 1999 CD) under Vista: startup message "the microkernel or the Btrieve requester is not active". After a day of trial and error, I have a solution that works:
Problem 1: Btrieve wants to write to C:\, which is not allowed by Vista
A partial solution involves changing the paths
- create a directory on C:,
- modify in the files C:\EBP\Compta5\Btrieve.reg
and C:\EBP\Compta5\Cli_Serv.reg the keys "Home Directory"="C:\." and "Trace File"="C:\MKDEWE.TRA" to point to this directory (for example "Home Directory"="C:\MonRep" and "Trace File"="C:\MonRep\MKDEWE.TRA"
- run these two files to modify the registry
Now, the software should launch.
Problem 2: if you start a file reorganization (Tools / Maintenance / file reorganization), there is again an error. Apparently, during this operation, the software still writes to C:\. Thus, the solution to Problem 1 is not sufficient. The radical solution is to allow software to write to C:\. To do this:
Disabling UAC
- Control Panel
- User Accounts and Family Safety
- User Accounts
- Turn User Account Control on or off
- uncheck "Use User Account Control to help protect your computer"
- [OK]
As a result, the operations to solve Problem 1 are no longer necessary.
Problem 3: After some manipulations, the software becomes unresponsive:
In the properties of the shortcut that you use to launch Compta5, tab "Compatibility",
- check "Disable visual themes"
- check "Disable desktop composition"
It may be necessary to restart Windows.
After that, I have currently made several attempts on the demo company (reorganizations, entries, inquiries, guides, closing...) successfully.

Hello, something that could work. Make everyone an administrator. Reinstall the program (if possible, choose "allow all users"). Once installed, start the program on each desktop. And finally, change the accounts to "limited account".
Hi, you also need to grant modification/write permissions in C:/program files/common files/Pervasive software shared
It works for me with EBP education 2004
However, I have the same problem with EBP Garage V6, can someone help me?

Hello,
No way Mega, if you have 50 users, it's not practical to go to each workstation every time and enter the admin password. So either you use the solution I wrote above if it works with your version of EBP, or another thing:
Right-click on the EBP shortcut on the desktop ===> "properties" === Tab "shortcut"
In the "target" field enter:
runas /savecred /user:<username> "<path to the exe>"
I replaced the "spaces" with " _ ".
For example, if you replace <username> with "administrator" or the login of an admin (without quotes and without the <>), the program will run with admin rights. The only small issue is that for each session, on each workstation, at the first launch of the program, you will have to enter the admin password in a DOS window. The command "/savecred" will save that password.
Good luck and take care... Especially if you have 100 workstations and need to enter the password 100 times :p
Here's an example:
runas /savecred /user:administrator "C:\program files\EBP\compta\compta.exe"</username></username>

Thank you Warox for your clarifications, but you need to explain to me how to work with EBP single-user on 100 different workstations.
Best regards, see you later

Actually, I work in a vocational high school, so we have as many "education" licenses as there are accounting positions. The network version is only used to store files on a server. But it still requires installing a client on each workstation, and the process remains the same. We work in standalone mode because each student in each class has their own file to work on, and the server we have can't keep up to act as a data server. Resources "national education", and above all, I took over the baby (network) in a bad state... I have exactly 108 workstations with EBP installed, and for the shortcut, I copied and pasted it, but I entered the password for each workstation (or had teachers do it). Next time I’ll write a script, yeah, but when I did that, I didn't have the 2003 server available yet...
Best regards and good luck

Hello.
If you are still listening, I have the same issue with EBP Commercial Management (Version 5.2 which is about 8 years old). It worked under Vista before I reinstalled everything, but I don't remember how.
Message: "The microkernel or the Btrieve requester is not active"
Note that I do not see "Pervasive software shared" in the indicated location.
I double-clicked on Btrieve.reg and then restarted.
I have granted write access to everything that seemed related to EBP.
I am an administrator.
So I have everything right (?), but it doesn't work.
If any of you have found a solution...

Hello
We have been using EBP since 2004 (EBP accounting 2004) for the cash management of an association without any problems.
We decided in 2010 to use it for our own accounting as a replacement for Money.
Our problem is that we cannot program monthly operations such as EDF payments, taxes, etc.
On Money, it was very simple but EBP doesn't seem to be great!
It seems to be called "subscription management", but we are struggling with the issue.
Can someone provide clarification?
Thank you all.

thank you for your response. Indeed, the accounting works as soon as you disable UAC.
But I have the same problem with EBP Automobile V8.
The message is: "The microkernel or the Btrieve requester is not active"
I think the procedure for accounting and the garage is the same, but I don't quite understand what needs to be done.
Can you give me more details on the procedure to follow? I'm not very strong in computer science.
Thank you, Yann
