Hello, I'm writing because I have a problem with my keyboard, as you might guess :P
So, I’ve had a keyboard for almost 2 years, at first it worked well, but for the past few months, it doesn't delete in one go anymore. Let me explain:
-I write a text on any software or any website, I want to delete my sentence, but if I hold down the key to delete, it will only erase one letter per second, which is annoying when I need to delete a long sentence. So I have to tap the key, which is bothersome and makes me look not very smart :P
So I'm reaching out to see if I might have made a wrong manipulation in my computer settings, or if there is something else :)
P.S.: I have a Compaq keyboard, like this one http://www.google.fr/...
Thank you for your help, Roulio :)
Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 23.0.1271.97

Hello,
Right now, I don't know, maybe a value in the registry has jumped, but in the meantime, there's a simpler way to delete your text: you can select it with the mouse (or with the keyboard by holding down shift and pressing the left arrow), or you can go to the beginning of your sentence and press delete....
If you're looking for a solution and not an alternative, Google is your friend! :) -
Hello Roulio, Happy New Year.
To erase a word or a phrase, you can also hover your mouse over the word or phrase to be deleted to select it like this:

then click once on the delete key.

Thank you for your responses, I already knew your tips, but I don't use them often. Also, even Shift plus left or right arrow doesn't work either, my keyboard only registers 1 keystroke per second. Should I try using another keyboard?
Thank you for your responses, and happy new year to you too :) -
You can always try with another keyboard, but then what will you do?
Change the keyboard? It will cost you quite a bit for little reason!
When a keyboard is under warranty, the best thing to do is to take it to customer service.
The causes of keyboard malfunctions are numerous and subtle. It only takes a shock, accumulated dust, crumbs of bread, a piano-playing cat, or a hitting child, or spilled coffee,... and the keyboard malfunctions. It can also be due to a driver issue, although I doubt it. You can always check in the device manager to see if there's a yellow triangle. In that case, you'll need to update the driver. You can also try uninstalling the keyboard and reinstalling it. Occasionally, that fixes things, but often it doesn’t change anything.
Since the keyboard is connected to the motherboard via a ribbon cable, it may also be that it is poorly connected, which causes malfunctions. However, in my opinion, it wouldn't be limited to this small issue (which is relatively minor and does not affect the general operation of the PC).
If you are handy, you can always try to remove the keyboard to attempt to reconnect the ribbon cable properly, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, you risk causing more harm than good. Generally, the less you fiddle with it...
Finally, it may simply be due to what is called "planned obsolescence." The best thing would be to get used to deleting as indicated in my first post and if the keyboard experiences other malfunctions later, to replace it or... to change the PC depending on its age. In the meantime, if this little problem annoys you, you also have a low-cost solution: buy a USB keyboard.
Best regards, Bridget.-
- To access the Device Manager:

- For accumulated dust: Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it gently. This will remove the dust or other debris that may prevent the keys from functioning properly.
You can also use a compressed air product to clean the dust accumulated in hard-to-reach areas under the keys.
Keep us updated. -
Thank you very much, but my keyboard is no longer under warranty (it's quite old, that might be the cause of the problem?) I cleaned my keyboard thoroughly, no effect. Regarding the ribbon cable, I'm not familiar with it. My PC is 2 years old, and I plan to change it soon (when I have the money and when this one really starts to struggle). And my keyboard is already USB.
I will borrow my father's keyboard, which deletes in one go, to be sure of what is wrong (keyboard - PC).
