G'day
I just installed Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro and everything is going (almost) smoothly, but once Windows is installed... there’s no way to go back to OSX, every time I restart it automatically boots into XP... if someone could tell me where this might be coming from :)
Thanks in advance
PS: Oh, and for the anecdote, I already had a welcome crash 5 minutes after the installation lol... ah, good old Windows, it brings back memories lol :p

Just hold down the "alt" key at startup until the two hard drives appear on the screen to select your OS.

I installed Boot Camp on my Mac Pro, I had the same issue, but after searching, I found it. It's located somewhere in the Control Panel, I can't remember the exact place. For security, I made a shortcut on the desktop (I don't have a good memory). I think I'll be able to find it easily. Unfortunately for you, my Mac is not at my place but at my girlfriend's, and I won't see her until Saturday. So if you have patience and if you haven't solved the problem by then, I'll meet you on Saturday to close the window and bite into the apple! (a marvel) You also have the option to download the Boot Camp installation guide from the Apple France website: click on the Mac OS X tab, then on the right click on "download public beta version", then in the text "installation and configuration guide" - your answers are there or almost.

I can no longer return to the Mac partition when I try, Boot Camp indicates that it is "impossible to locate the Mac OS X startup volume", and also the option key does not work, no choices are displayed.
What should I do please ????-
Exactly the same thing, give or take... I've partitioned my hard drive (14GB for Windows), I launch Bootcamp, start installing Windows, until the moment it asks me where I want to install it: I have no options available, it shows me the internal disk of 130GB (and not the 14GB partition), telling me that if I partition it, everything will be erased. So I decide to quit ("escape"), then I end up at a black screen with a small blinking cursor at the top left.
And there, it's a tragedy! If I insert the Windows disk on startup, it tells me to press any key to continue, but nothing happens... I even tried inserting the Leopard disk, and after quite a long wait, macOS opens as if for the very first time and asks me to continue the installation (which I can't do since the startup disk is not found when it asks where I want to install macOS... and anyway, I don't want to, all I want is to get back to my previous setup, with all my files).
I've also tried "ALT" at startup, but it only shows the "Windows" icon and not the Apple one; and when clicking on Windows, we again get this black window with the small blinking cursor at the top left...
Anyway, can you help me please!!!!
Yo!- I am a PC user, I just got my 24-inch iMac 2.88GHz, I have a Windows XP Home CD with SP3, I go into Bootcamp, it seems fine, I install Windows, but when it comes to the screen asking me to choose the partition, I don't have a choice.. it's C: partition 1 (unknown), it's not written BOOTCAMP like everyone talks about and it's 130 GB and not 32 GB like I indicated with Bootcamp. I tried to install it on that one, it fails because at startup it's the same story as Yo! said just above..
I've formatted everything, I've reinstalled the OS about 10 times and tested everything with Disk Utility, all kinds of formats and everything, I've read almost all the forums and I've called Apple support twice, I even took my computer to an Apple store, it cost me $60 for nothing (because it's not covered if there's no hardware to replace). Anyway, it's really starting to piss me off!!!
Does anyone know the answer to why Windows installation does not allow you to choose the BOOTCAMP partition? Because otherwise, it overwrites your OS and then you're screwed!!
Thanks!!

I have the same problem with Bootcamp; at the end of the installation, upon restarting, it shows me the error "app error on a key." If anyone has an answer, thank you in advance.

Hi G'day,
Did you use the "Option" key to take control of your machine? That means it offers you to start up under Mac or Windows.
To do this, hold down the "Option" key during startup.
Good luck. -

Hello, I just installed Windows and I had the same problem.
To fix it, I did:
* restart while holding down eject to remove the XP install CD
* and install the Mac drivers when you are in Windows from the Leopard install CD
now I can restart into Mac from Windows (icon in the taskbar)
But I don't have access to both OS when I hold down "option" at startup... if anyone has a solution?
Thanks
Good luck -

Excuse me. So if I understand correctly, BOOT CAMP allows you to run Windows applications (I already knew that lol)... but just one thing... Can you download Windows Live Messenger when you are on Windows XP???
Thank you for answering :D!!!! -
Hello, I tried to install XP SP2 under Bootcamp, everything goes well, it installs the drivers until the moment it restarts the iMac
then it shows the "inspecting your configuration" window again, and starts the process in a loop. I think this is due to the iMac
doing an autoload and on PC you had to press a key to start the XP installation...
could you please give me the solution? :)
Best regards and thank you in advance for your help. -

With my G4 Intel, it only works on Windows. When I go to the control panel in startup disk, only the Windows icon appears. Can you help me if I reinstall Mac OS?

Hello, I also have the issue of Windows reinstalling in a loop... with the disk error along the way...
Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks for your posts,

Hello
I installed XP with Bootcamp Leopard on my MacBook some time ago, with an NTFS partition and everything was working fine. Unfortunately for me, with practice, I realized that I needed to be able to read and write to my XP partition when I was on Mac OS, so I reformatted and set my XP partition to FAT32 (quick format, if that changes anything). Now, when I restart and press the option (alt) key, I only see my Mac OS disk, so I can no longer boot into XP even though the installation went perfectly; I was even able to use XP until I restarted under Mac OS.
Now I automatically boot into Mac OS no matter what I do.
Does anyone have a solution?
I really need help; I have to use XP for my classes in 2 hours :(
Cya :p -
I forgot to mention that going to System Preferences/Startup to choose the Windows disk doesn't work because I only see the network disk.
:) -
help I don't know how to install the drivers as they say I put the Leopard disc back in and I can't find how to install them please help thank you for your responses

I have the same problem as Coketail.
I installed XP with Boot Camp under Mac OS Leopard in NTFS
It's impossible to go back to XP from Mac OS.
XP does not appear when I hold down Option at startup.
It does not appear in the startup options in system preferences either.
However, the partition still exists; I can see it in the storage space detected by Mac OS, which is the storage space of the disk split into two (minus a few installed programs :p). In short, it detects a little less than 160g on 320.
What can be done?
Thank you" -
Hello,
Between the disk error issues, hal.dll missing, etc... it's not easy to install Windows on your Mac, huh?
I took a whole day to install it myself....
Solution:
-Close all windows on your Mac, then go to Bootcamp and create a 30G Windows partition (that's what I did since over 32G you can't format in FAT, FAT because when you're on your OS you'll see the Windows partition, you'll be free to add or delete things from your Mac. Moreover, if you have an external hard drive and you want to store things from both Mac and Windows, the only way is -> FAT32 formatting so both systems can recognize the hard drive).
-Insert the Windows installation disk and restart. Once you reach the point where it shows the partitions, check if you have BOOTCAMP as a choice in C:. If so, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING and exit the installation for two solutions:
1) Restart from the Windows CD and press F10 when prompted to press F6. You'll enter the BIOS. This doesn't work everywhere, so there's another solution afterwards. If you enter the BIOS, type the command:
format c: q/ /FS:FAT32
Then install Windows on the created 30G partition (don't make a mistake :) ). If, during the selection of the new partition, it suggests reformatting, do nothing, leave it as is.
2) Download UBCD and burn it to boot from this CD (burn with the Gburner program).
Restart from the UBCD and enter the BIOS to format just like above.
(At the startup choice, hold down ALT to exit the Windows CD and enter the UBCD).
Then install Windows and do not modify the formatting if it offers it.
Miracle 0 errors! Windows installs, etc...
Once Windows is installed, insert the Mac OSX CD and install Bootcamp and all the drivers, etc....
There you go, your MAC & Win available choice of OS at startup: ALT.

For HAL.dll, you just need to format with BootCamp Assistant on Mac, do not reformat in FAT or NTFS during the installation (even if you have to use the command "convert c : /fs:ntfs" later in Windows)
You need to partition it to 32 GB and then select the option "keep the file system as is"

It's an old topic, but I'll quickly explain it anyway to help those who will find this topic one day.
So, to restart on MAC OS, I just had the same problem.
After searching online, I found nothing, but I thought about it and found the solution.
What you do is put the OS X CD into the machine, then you need to restart and boot from the CD using the C key.
It will then boot from the CD, and at that point, it will reach the start of the OS X installation.
Select the language and wait for the desktop behind to initialize, then in the Utilities tab go to Startup Disk, select the hard drive where MAC is installed, and restart ;) It's not harder than that :D
Then, once you're booted on your MAC, don't forget to install REFIT ;) especially for dual booting.
Have a good day everyone
Best regards

On Windows, en bas à droite, il y a un petit losange gris pour Boot Camp, tu peux démarrer OS X à partir de là.
