Hello, I have a problem capturing my videos
First of all, I bought a mini DV digital camcorder Samsung VP-D361PAL last week.
The Firewire cable and the Firewire card were not supplied with the camcorder.
So I went to buy a 3-port Firewire card and a power cord (I have two, as I didn’t think a cord would be provided with the card).
So I followed the manual, it says to set my camcorder to playback mode, which I do, then to connect my Firewire cable, and Windows XP opens a window asking me what action I want to take.
I request to capture with Movie Maker (I also tried with Adobe Premiere and had the same problem), so Movie Maker opens normally without issue, it presents a small player with fast forward, play, rewind, stop, and pause buttons. With a black screen that says preview.
Then I start playback via Movie Maker (so I press the play button on Movie Maker), my camcorder starts up and plays the film. But on the preview screen, the image remains black and I cannot see the video, although I can see it playing on my camcorder's LCD screen.
I stop the capture, click on finish, and it tells me that the capture could not be completed due to a camcorder or connection issue, and asks me to check the connections.
I tried with Adobe Premiere and have the same problem.
I noticed a defect however.
In the user manual, it states that once the DV (Firewire) cable is connected, a "DV" icon should appear, but it does not.
I cannot find the solution, it's been two weeks that I've been at this and still the same problem, if anyone has a solution, it would be kind of them to share it with me.
I wonder if it’s my DV cable that’s the issue, as I heard about 4 and 6 pin connectors or something like that.
I specify that I have two DV cords (one provided with the card and another purchased separately) and I tested both, but I encounter the same problem. Can you help me please?
My config is an AMD Barton 3000+ with 1 gig of memory, I am using Windows XP Pro.

I just acquired a Samsung VP-D371 camera (new model replacing the VP-D361).
I've watched one film and have not yet moved on to the stage of editing on my computer.
Could you tell me what I need to obtain to successfully carry out this task: which DV cable?....
Thank you for replying to me as I am a novice in this area!

Here we go, it works! (3 months of sporadic efforts, though...)
First, in the config table, system, device manager, I had an error message code 10 on bus class 61883 (or something like that, I didn't note it...).
I typed that on Google and found a Windows update.
Then, following various forums, I bought a higher quality firewire cable to replace the standard 1.8 meter one that I bought at the same time as the camcorder, and there it is, a miracle, it works... just once though!
The device cannot start, no driver.
Where have my previous downloads gone? A mystery.
I re-download the driver and then everything works, but not every time, I sometimes have to turn off and turn on the camcorder while checking the device status.
A priori, I suppose it's my cable that's too long (1.8m) even though it's of good quality.

Hello
In Movie Maker, at the top left, the dropdown menu where you save, click on import and a menu will open where you choose your camcorder. For the rest, you just have to follow along, but connect your camcorder with your 4 or 6 pin cable, it doesn't matter, it's just for the inputs and outputs; the D 361 only has outputs! And don't forget to turn it on beforehand.

Well, mine starts, reading your posts didn't help me much... except for the driver
AND then by CHANCE, a big discovery...
you can't plug it in with the Battery, the power supply AND the FireWire 4-pin cable (which you plug into the port named DV)... so remove either the battery or the power supply from the camcorder...
and then miracle!!
it works perfectly!
bye friends, good luck confirm that for me!

Hi, I just read about your issues with watching videos on PC, I have the same problems! It turns out that our PCs need a driver (which comes with the other camcorders, except the D361!) Currently, there isn't one available! So we just have to film and wait! See you later!
SAME for me, I bought a Samsung VPD361 camcorder in January 2007, delivered without any drivers to install, and it is not recognized by any of my computers. I reported it to Samsung, who responded twice rather unfriendly that the connectivity issues with the computer were not their concern and that it was my computer's fault. As a result, I have hardly ever used the camera, I'm trying again today, I’m going to Carrefour and we try it on several new computers, including a Sony, but nothing works, it is never recognized, this camera is really crap, I can throw it in the trash.
For once that I don’t buy Sony, I won’t be doing that again....

All forums are reporting this driver issue and the practical impossibility of transferring videos taken with the VP-D361 to a PC.
However, on the Samsung.fr website, in the downloads section, (http://www.samsung.com/fr/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=249246&type=Cam%c3%a9scopes&typecode=200500&subtype=Cam%c3%a9scopes+Num%c3%a9riques&subtypecode=200501&cmssubtypecode=&model=VP-D361&filetype=DR&language=
there is a driver whose last update date is April 19, 2007, which is quite recent.
Has anyone tested this new driver version? Does it fix the issue?
I do not own this camcorder - and therefore cannot test it myself - but I would consider buying it if this camcorder <-> PC connection issue was resolved.

Hello,
I just acquired the VP-D361.
It is recognized without any problems after installing the driver downloaded from the Samsung website (I am on XP and equipped with a firewire card).
The transfers to the computer go smoothly (I use Nero Vision Express to play and record).
I can even control (fast forward, rewind, playback, recording...) from Nero Vision.

Hello,
I just bought the VP-D361 too.
The seller told me that everything was included.
On the forum, I just saw that I needed a firewire card. I don’t know if I already have one on my computer. It’s from September 2006. I believe I need a cable. I know I’m not very good with these things. Can you advise me on purchasing cables and firewire?
Thank you. chris.milliot@yahoo.fr

hello,
I also have a problem with my Samsung VP-D361 camcorder.
It is recognized by my PC via the FireWire connection.
But the transfer stops after about 20 minutes.
I have tried Windows Movie Maker, Nero Vision Express, Ulead 10, Pinnacle 9 but always the same issue.
My motherboard is limited to 512MB of memory, my Pentium III 1300MHz processor has 45GB remaining on my hard drive.
Thank you for your help.

So, I don't know if this will add fuel to the fire, but my problem is quite the opposite.
Indeed, I also bought a Samsung VP-D361 camcorder for my parents, and before giving it to them, I took it in hand just a little bit; I tried to connect the firewire (Ie 1394) DV cable to the PC and the camcorder, no problem, the camcorder is recognized even if the DV symbol does not appear on the screen. So I can capture movies and make small edits. But where I encounter the problem is transferring the video to the DV tape via the camcorder (through the firewire connection), nothing happens. I tried quite a few things, including putting the playback on pause before the supposed recording, and the only thing that happens is that the camcorder automatically goes to stop at the end of the transfer, which makes me think that the camcorder and Movie Maker are communicating.
So there you go, I don’t know if this helps, but I haven't had any problems even with a fairly light setup.

thank you

Hello,
I want to buy a camcorder but I'm hesitating between the SAMESUNG VP_D371W and the JVC GR-D720.
Actually, I don't have a video capture card and I would still like to be able to transfer my videos (I have a USB port, so a firewire USB cable might work??)
Thank you for your help.

Hello
I also have a VP-D371 with Vista; I bought a 4-pin FireWire cable at both ends, I downloaded a driver from the Samsung website, but absolutely nothing happens.
I would like to know if this camcorder (the basic model) can transfer images to a computer, as it is not very well explained in the manual.
I see information for the VP-D371i but not for the VP-D371.
Thank you.

Hi everyone. I also bought a vp-d371 and there it is! The same problem as with you. Impossible to do a complete capture!! The computer recognizes the camcorder, starts capturing from time to time, and then after a few seconds... pffff... it disappears, nothing, it’s not even there anymore!!! Makes me so angry... I bought 3 different cards, I took my camcorder to Samsung for a check... they told me there was no problem with the camcorder. I took it back to a large store to try it on a computer and it worked!!!! My computer has 1 GB of RAM + XP + 256 video card, so it’s not totally outdated!! Now all that’s left is to take the computer and the camcorder to a specialist!!! Makes me so mad...
Hi, sorry but I’m going to disappoint you... I also have a VPD 371 but with XP, no capture possible (crash)!!
Hello,
I am about to buy the Samsung VP-D361, given my limited budget I finally found it for €156 online even at Darty! Of course, I can increase my budget, but it seems that, in the end, the Mnidv is of better quality than the hard disk in terms of image capture while staying at 800,000 pixels..???
I am looking for a good quality camcorder, which means decent and not too expensive.
Given your experience, what is your opinion on my choice????????
I will only use it for family stuff: videos of the kids and vacations, but I would like to transfer them to my computer for storage and also to put them on DVD or CD for grandparents and so that the kids can watch them in 20 years (at least....because by then the camcorder won't work anymore for direct viewing on TV and the VCR probably won't either!!!!)
I understood that now the cam/PC transfer is possible thanks to the drivers provided by samsung.fr, right???
Is the image quality satisfactory once transferred to the computer? And then on DVD?
Thank you.
