Active Movie Window application error

Hello,
If I open a directory containing large files (avi) a error box appears containing the following message:
“Active Movie Window application error instruction 0x0324c710 Click on OK to stop the program...”. Then if I try to close or act on the box, Windows Explorer closes and restarts again.

The only way to access and work with the video files (or others) within the directory is through a file explorer inside some software.
My configuration is: Windows XP Pro NTFS Sempron 3000 1Gb memory, so this shouldn’t pose problems...

I have already published this problem on several forums (French, English, Dutch), but up to now no one has answered my question. I am now very bothered and would like to know how to proceed so that I can easily access and run my video files.

my thanks in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 1.5.0.9

    Hi

    don’t look too far

the solution is to do this

To remedy this problem, first disable previews:

    Start / Run / regsvr32 -u shmedia.dll

Hello, I saw that everyone was happy with your solution, except that I have exactly the same error message when I turn on my computer. I can't open uTorrent, iTunes, etc. So I downloaded the codec pack but after...? I imagine it won't solve itself automatically. Could you help me with this question please?

Sorry, I made a mistake, your solution, I haven’t tried it but I don’t understand it, how do you disable previews?

    RE Hello

    so

It may be a Windows XP bug. Indeed, Windows "computes" the duration of all videos on the disk, which causes near-100% CPU or memory usage by the Explorer.exe process.

and in a second step to see that it works :-)

    Hi

    Can you be more precise?
Have you had this message forever? if not, do you recall what happened after?
Have you already tried something to resolve the problem? if so, what?

    See you later

Yes I’ve had this message forever: since I started processing (large) video files on this computer.

Did you have image or video processing software installed from the start? If so, which ones?

Did you install codec packs for playing your videos? If so, which ones?

    SP1 or SP2?

      Hello,
Ever since I started working with video processing software, I had installed Pinnacle Studio Version 8 SE as well as Photo Impact 4.2 for images.

Furthermore, I don't really think it's about codecs or anything like that, because the same problem also seems to occur with a window showing an almost unlimited number of photos (mostly in .jpg format).

The problem occurs while reading the additional information of the files displayed in the window; if the total size exceeds a certain limit, the error occurs. In my opinion, it's a matter of buffer overflow.
I just don't know how to indicate the exact cause in order to potentially resolve this problem.

    Hi

Do a search on your computer for this file:

    pvmjpj21.dll

And delete it. It seems to be a conflict with Pinnacle Studio.

    Keep me posted.

    Cheers.

I have checked, but this file does not exist under the directories of my computer, so it cannot be it.

    Hi there, little spark.

in a first step it is about deactivating previews

    And in a second step?
What is the cause of the problem?

    See you

Okay. Well, we’ll wait for news then.

In any case, thanks for your clarifications. I’m going to bed tonight a little less dumb. ;-)

    Hello,

    Here is my problem:
I'm on Vista, I would like to install a game "flight simulator", but during the installation the game asks me to uninstall the file ' activeMovie" in order to replace it with the one from the game.
The problem is that I can't find this file under Vista.
    If someone can help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello!

I also have a problem with this so-called Active Movie Window, but slightly different in how it unfolds.
It happened like this suddenly, not after installing any program, but simply overnight.
I had never had this issue, and about a week ago it appeared: I have a sort of “junk drawer” folder where I throw everything in a jumble to be sorted later, so there’s a bit of everything (files .rar, .mp3 .jpg, .avi, .mkv etc...). Recently, when I open the folder, most of the time everything goes fine, but from time to time, at the moment I click to open the folder, it crashes everything! impossible to open anything (folder, program etc...), impossible to close already open programs, and generally no links respond, the taskbar stays stuck, etc...

Only solution: ctrl+alt+delete to open Task Manager and restart the PC !!! and when shutting down Windows, this window appears: “Active Movie Window” is not responding" etc.... and I have to click “End now” for the PC to restart...

This has happened about ten times in the past week! Super annoying....

I’ve heard there’s a possibility that ffdshow could be the cause, but I wouldn’t understand, since I’ve always had ffdshow on the PC and it never did this before this week...

    Thanks for the help.

One more thing, I forgot to ask:

I'm a bit afraid to run the "regsvr32 -u shmedia.dll" operation for fear it might make things worse.. Is it reversible in case it does?

    Thank you

Hi, I also have an ActiveMovie Window problem. I had this problem after I installed a Sabrent brand TV Pendrive, Digital HDTV & ATSC on my computer which is a 64-bit platform using Windows Vista Home Premium. I don’t know what to do because I can’t watch TV on my computer.
