[Money] Password

Actually, I have the same problem as you
I've had my accounting on Money for 12 years
I'm still using Money 2000
Recently, my work laptop was upgraded from Win 2000 to XP
Since then, I've reinstalled Money 2000 using the same CD ROM from back then that I had bought
It asks me for the password. I know I'm entering the right one. It tells me that the password is incorrect. I know it's mistaken

I've tried downloading the freeware version of Money 2007. When I try to open my Money file, the program tries to convert it to Money 2007. It asks for a password. If I enter some random thing, it doesn't open. If I enter the correct password that I know, it works. So I'm sure of my password (like you, the same one for a long time)

However, Money 2007 takes forever to convert, then at the end, it tells me that the file comes from an earlier version of Money and that it can't open it...

People are talking in the forums about a known problem related to regional settings, that they need to be identical between WIN 2000 and XP. But I don't know the original regional settings. At work, they tell me they haven't changed...

In short, 12 years of accounting lost, I'm so mad....

I have a similar problem to yours. I've had Money 2000 for a long time, it works perfectly, with a password to open the file.

Recently the computer crashed, and some programs, including Money, need to be reinstalled. And once reinstalled, Money no longer recognizes my password. It's incomprehensible!

I'm replying because I've finally solved the problem, and yes! But exactly how, I'm not quite sure!

However, I'll tell you what I remember: I really struggled for a month, spending whole evenings to recover my 12 years of accounting. Now that I've got everything back, I'm too happy not to share

So, first of all, know that you can forget about Money 2000. You need to buy another version if you've switched to Win XP or Vista (I'm on XP)
But since Money has not been marketed in France after 2005 (Money 2006 and 2007 are freeware; you can buy the US version online, but I'm not sure it works in France, especially for downloading bank statements)

So, you can download the freeware Money 2005
Then, don't open your Money file right away, but create a dummy account on Money 2005, it should notify you that an update for Money 2005 is available. You absolutely need to do that.

Only then, you try to open your file (2000) with Money 2005, in File > Restore a backup copy

For me, it took a while, like 20 minutes. It didn't work the first time. You might need to try twice

But the most extraordinary thing is when it finally opens your file that you really thought was lost. But the file is huge, like 28MB!!!

Then, I bought the standard version of Money 2005, for €25 at FNAC. And since then, everything's going great
