Hello,
I apologize for the not very clear title, but there wasn't enough space.
So, all this to say that almost all my program shortcuts from the Start menu have disappeared; I haven't changed any settings, and I honestly don't understand the reasons for these disappearances, nor how to restore the program shortcuts in the Start menu.
A few details, if it helps to solve this:
1) There are still 3 programs left: the calculator, a game, and Skype. I haven't modified any of the three.
2) The "All Programs" menu is just as empty (there's only Windows Update sitting alone).
3) If I use the search function, I can find everything there.
4) There was a Windows 7 update shortly before, both mandatory and optional.
Hoping to find a solution quickly.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 14.0.1

Hello
if it doesn't work.
start in safe mode press f8 then
1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Search box, then press Enter.
If prompted for an administrator password or to confirm an operation, enter the password or click Continue.
2. Under the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3. Under Selective Startup, uncheck the Load startup items checkbox.
4. Click on the Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services box, then click Disable all.
5. Click OK, then Restart.
If you can see the taskbar and icons, please return to msconfig to enable the items we disabled one or two at a time to find the one causing the problem.
Note: To return to normal startup:
1. Click Start, Run, then type msconfig in the Open box and click OK.
2. Under the General tab, select Normal Startup, then click OK and restart.

Thank you for your suggestions. I did both, in the first one, I unfortunately noticed that the folder was... empty, completely empty (but then, why are these three programs chasing after each other?)
The second solution didn't change anything, whether I disabled certain things or not made no difference. Even the minimal mode didn't change anything.

but unfortunately the file is empty. How can I refill it?
