One must make a clear distinction between the By of byte, the b of bits, and the O
An English Byte is actually an Octet. So yes, 1Gbyte = 1Go
On the other hand, an octet (or Byte) = 8 bits. So 1Go=8Gb, or 1Gb=1/8Go
Be careful, there is a ratio of 8 in one case, and an equality in the other.

in principle, we use Gigabytes (GB) when we talk about storage capacity,
and we use Gigabits (Gb or Gb/second) when we talk about the speed of a transmission. -
@Spider_cochon78Exactly, that's one way to proceed. But be careful once again, we can talk about Bytes or bits for storage too; it's not recommended but it remains correct, as long as we specify it clearly in writing, or hear the word orally.
Don't get fooled, but it's true that some play on that. Always ask: how much is that in KB? Check that they are indeed talking about Bytes or Octets, or bits.
