Footnote spacing issue in Word

in Word 10:
in "Draft mode", go to "References" and "Show Notes"
Check in the "Paragraph" tools the line spacing you used for the notes. (By selecting the space just after the last visible character of each line) Set it to 1.0 line spacing for example.
Return to "Page" mode

Otherwise, double-click on the space of the "header" and "footer".
Select the places where the cursor appears if you want to write something. Hover the mouse pointer over it and double-click. Typically there will be a small selected area, the size of a letter.
Check if there is more than one line and delete the excess.
Also check what line spacing corresponds to this small selected area, the size of a letter...

I would like to follow up on this thread because I'm encountering the same problem in Word 2010, and I can't resolve it.
I switched to draft mode, displayed the footnotes, and there was no extra space to remove.
I displayed the note separator and checked the space before it; it is indeed set to 0.
Yet, on every page, the space between the end of the text and the notes is too large (between 1 and 5 lines on average depending on the pages).
I attempted to copy/paste the text into a new document, but it didn't work!
I also checked the styles, and nothing seems to be wrong.
In fact, for Word, this extra space doesn't seem to exist, even though it is clearly there!

Do you have any idea about the origin of the problem?
