Nikon Camera Not Recognized on Mac

Hello,
When I connect my camera, it is not recognized on Mac! Neither on iMac, nor on my PowerBook, nor on my partner's MacBook Pro, nothing!
How can I transfer the images? I'm not going to buy a card reader (I thought Macs worked well for everything??)
In the menu of my D300 I tried in two ways in the config menu/USB/ I first set M/P (MTP/PTP) but that did not work, then MSC (Mass Storage) and still nothing??
As soon as I turn on the camera while connected, the Macs do not detect anything?
Is it coming from the camera? (I doubt it, it’s a semi-pro Nikon body) or from the memory card? Or from the Macs :) ?

I just had the same problem with my D300S that I just bought. I changed the USB cable behind the MAC and it works now. Mystery!!!!

Thank you for this information. However, perhaps you could provide me with an answer to the problem encountered. In fact, since installing Catalina on my iMac and my MacBook Pro, I can no longer import my RAW photos (NEFF from Nikon) with my small transfer devices HAMA and NOVODIO in which I insert my SD and Compact Flash cards. For the SD card, no problem, it works, but it no longer works with the Compact Flash card, which is precisely where the NEFF photos are? Thank you in advance if you can provide me with an answer.
