My computer screen keeps turning on and off. Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

Here I am, after having gone through numerous unpleasant issues with the store that assembled my computer, facing another problem.

When I turn on the computer connected to the screen, I get an image that disappears a few seconds later. I turn off and turn on the screen again, and I still get an image for a few seconds before it goes off.
At first, I thought it was the screen giving out, but the light is permanently on.

I have 2 VGA ports on the computer. One is where it usually was on the motherboard (on top) and the other is at the bottom, which I would say is on the graphics card, next to an HDMI and DVI port (I think).

New configuration:
Windows XP
ASUS PH61-M LE micro ATX - LGA 1155
Intel core i5 2500k

My HP f1703 screen

I wonder if I simply need to buy a screen with an HDMI port, but if it could wait, that would suit me better.

Hi everyone. For me, I simply changed the cable (connecting the screen to the PC). I kept the DVI output from the screen and connected it via HDMI to the PC, and there, miracle, it works.

Hi,

I don't think buying another monitor is the solution. If there are both VGA and DVI, you should try both; it should work. If it doesn't, there are four possibilities:

faulty cable, but having this issue on two different interfaces would be really unlucky; I'd tend to rule out this hypothesis.
faulty graphics card, definitely possible, but we need to test further (for example, on another monitor)
faulty monitor, but normally it's binary; it either works all the time or not at all...
graphics card drivers. Are they up to date?

Looking a bit more closely at my screen that is going dark, I notice I can still see the image. But it's still completely black. Not usable.

There's a download I can perform with Nvidia, I've seen. I don't know if that will change anything.

I don't think it's the cord....

You indeed need to try the DVI output. The cable and adapter cost is negligible compared to changing the graphics card ;o)

It's worth a shot.

Hello,

I went to buy another VGA cable with a DVI adapter :o(((((((
Nothing works. The screen still does that funny thing, it turns on and then off after a few seconds. When I manually turn off the screen, I get a brightness that disappears shortly after.

The two DVI ports are different. The one on the motherboard doesn’t have the 4 holes next to the small tab at the bottom, while the one on the graphics card has those 4 holes that allow me to insert the adapter. Even though it was a bit complicated due to the location...

I don’t understand what’s happening.

I don’t know if I should buy an HDMI cable to try with my laptop screen. I don’t know if it would be of any use. They must have had a picture in the store!!!!!!!

I got too far ahead of myself, this morning it happened again, my screen has the same symptoms. For now, I'm tinkering and it works 1 time out of 2. In short, I still have no solution. To be continued...

Hello,

I have the same issue with an ASUS screen; it lights up for a few seconds, then shuts off with the indicator still blue, and I can still read what’s on the screen with the flash of my phone. The screen is just dark, and the problem comes from the inverter. Basically, the backlight is dead. You’ll need to disassemble the screen frame, replace the inverter (which should be about twenty euros), and it’s a bit tricky, but anyone can manage it, so there's no need to see a repair technician.
I can’t tell you more for now, as I’m discovering the problem at the same time as you; it hit me this morning.
