Stop using FN for volume+brightness control

Hello,

I just got an Asus and to adjust the sound, I have to press the FN key along with the key corresponding to sound, brightness, etc.
I find this method not very practical since you need both hands.

So, is it possible to access all these settings (at the F1, F2 keys, etc.) without having to press FN?

    Yes: check the advanced power settings in the Control Panel.

    Depending on the settings, it's 12 clicks instead of a keyboard shortcut... it's up to you to see what is most practical.

    Actually, I'm still regularly having to adjust the sound of the music I'm listening to or the movie I'm watching.
    Furthermore, I also use a projector so I often turn off the screen.
    All these controls go through FN. It's really not convenient.
    By the way, I'm not very familiar with the purpose and use of the FN keys 1, etc...
    It would definitely be more practical to be able to control everything directly, wouldn't it?

      That's why keyboard shortcuts with [Fn] were created... you don't quite realize it. Without them, you have to open a different menu to make the desired adjustment!

      Want a more direct keyboard shortcut? With one key? Use programmable keyboards, like the Logitech G15, to which you can assign your desired keyboard shortcuts.

    When you adjust the volume using FN + a key, you change the sound of the PC, not the video.

    Most video/music players allow you to control the volume using the up/down/left/right arrows on your keyboard, or via the mouse wheel.
    It's much more convenient, and moreover, it only adjusts the sound of the video, not the entire PC, so it doesn't mess anything up.

    The only thing that can be annoying sometimes is using FN/F5 to switch between the PC and the retro, I admit that can be a hassle sometimes, but oh well.

    Personally, I don't know if it's doable, sorry. :(

      It's not more convenient because I say so, but because it is!

      A keyboard shortcut that can be activated anytime, with two fingers, is still more convenient than
      "opening the Control Panel,
      opening a menu,
      a tab,
      an option,
      moving a cursor,
      validating three times,
      closing the remaining windows"
      and each setting leads to a menu that is sometimes completely different.

    But it’s the same on 99% of laptops. (The FN + another key combination)

    Your F1, F2 keys, etc., are usually used more often.
    If you could do what you're asking, you wouldn’t be able to use F1, F2, F3 anymore... and in my opinion, that’s worse.

    Normally, you set the brightness and all those kinds of things once and that’s it; you shouldn’t have to use them every 2 minutes!
