Hello
I would like to use a LASERWRITER NETWORK printer (Apple) 12/640 PS that I connected via RJ45 to my hub (Ethernet 10 base T), but I can't find it with the advanced configuration in Windows XP.... :-(
I'm setting the TCP/IP to 192.0.1.105 because when I turn on the laser printer it prints a sheet indicating this IP address
This sheet also gives me the P server name as well as the Ethernet address.... I've tried everything, it never works....
I also pinged the address... it doesn’t respond... whether from "run" in the START menu or from the ping test of my Sagem Livebox
I noticed that the Livebox configuration which assigns IP addresses automatically gives me network IDs like 192.168.1.0 under subnet 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.70.0, in short... different families... but if I change my network IDs to fixed (from Windows XP) to the same family as my printer, I no longer have internet...
Could someone help me????
Thanks in advance!!!
Configuration: WINDOWS XP, Sagem Livebox, two laptops, two HP inkjet printers on each laptop, one LaserWriter (APPLE) 12/640PS directly on the hub.

It's done, EVERYTHING IS RESOLVED!!!!
IP Problem: Change the IP from the MAC address
see previous messages: use the command prompt cmd = "run" in the start menu, then arp -s to change the IP, then telnet open to enter the printer and specify the subnet mask and default gateway
AS FOR THE LASERWRITER PROBLEM.... this is madness... The Windows engineers have deployed all their hatred against APPLE... or against simplicity???
(I can't copy the link, so here's the article...)
The correct method is hidden in a dark corner of the operating
system. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connection, in the last menu on the right in Advanced select "Optional network management components". This launches a configuration wizard for
Windows XP. Check the box "Other network file and print services" and click next. This installs printing services for Unix.
Then, go to Start > Control Panel > Printers and
Faxes. In the File menu select "Server Properties".
Click on the Ports tab, click on "Add a port", choose LPR
port. Enter the IP address of your printer and a name for the print
spooler if necessary. This creates a local port that the computer
will use to communicate with the network printer. Close the server properties window.
Finally, returning to "Printers and Faxes," click on
"Add a printer" in the left panel titled Print Tasks, after pressing next, select the option
A local printer connected to this computer, remember that even
if you are using a network printer, you have already added a local port. Deselect the Plug and Play printer
detection and installation option and press next. The wizard, after searching for a
local printer port, invites you to choose it manually by
clicking next, in the drop-down menu that must display "LPT1: Recommended port" choose the local port defined previously
and then press next.
Windows contains many preinstalled printer drivers, so on
the next screen select Apple and the printer model that is
yours. Give your printer a name and decide if you want
to print a test page, by pressing next you can test
if the operations carried out were successful.
This procedure will also work for non-TCP/IP printers like the
LaserWriter Select 360 if the printer is connected to a parallel port server.
There you go... so don't tell the engineers at MICROSOFT that APPLE has its own complete system, they think it's UNIX...!
THANK YOU to everyone who helped me!

I have a "Mita" brand multifunction printer that works on a network, but I couldn't set it up on the network. How does it work? Thank you.
Hello everyone
I would like to configure all my PCs so that I can finally print documents anywhere on my network.
But I don't know how to go about it.
Thank you for everything

Super, thank you! You solved my problem! It works perfectly; I was really panicking because I couldn't install a 'network' printer like I usually do, which is using the AD. This time it was a bit special, and thanks again for this great topic, guys!!

Hello,
the printer's IP address must be on the same range as that of the Livebox and the clients.
I see there's 192.168..70.0? Who is that for?
First, it's better to solve the ping issue.

Yes yes, I was indeed doing that ...!
That said, I managed to solve a problem: CHANGE the printer's IP from the MAC address
So I'm going to mark it as resolved (for that problem ...)
I went through the arp command prompt and then telnet
For those who are interested, I did:
arp -s 192.168.1.100 08-00-07-24-e6-as
that is, the IP address I chose based on my network
then its MAC address
Then I went to telnet, and there I was able to enter the printer thanks to the open function and its new IP address
(I’ll skip the details ... the first time I entered the printer, I reset the settings ... so it ended up with an IP of 0.0.0.0 and unreachable!!!) fortunately, the arp -s function got me out of the bind!
Well ... so I find myself with a printer with a coherent IP address:
ip: 192.168.1.100
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.1
I was able to print the entire recap table from the command prompt
I pinged it ... I got a response
But ... you won’t guess. ...! it still doesn’t work!!!
AND I still can’t find it with my browser
I went back to the forums
I found some info: an APPLE must be set to port 515 ... I did that
I freed that port on the livebox and then the Windows firewall ... nothing
Then I did a diagnosis with SANDRA ... and there it tells me it’s on port 7!!!!!
QUESTION: which port should I focus on?
and more generally: in which direction should I search now???
THANK YOU!!!

I would like to change the printer's IP address and set up the ping... but if it is not recognized on the network, how can I do all that?
And if I put the computers in the printer's IP family, I lose internet. Because the live box imposes its IP on me... which I can't change either...
Do you have a step-by-step method? Or a tutorial you could point me to? A network utility you could recommend?
Thank you.

I manage a cyber café with 18 workstations. Except for the server, I can't get the others configured to the printer. Thank you for your understanding.
Very simple. Go to printer and fax, and choose to add a local printer and just follow the procedure by reading and correctly interpreting the process. Then choose to install a local printer connected to this computer and at the end choose to share files and printers.
You take a single PC and set it to the same IP as the printer, then you access the printer with your browser and change its IP to match the IP range of the Livebox.
Then you set the PC's IP back to the same range as the Livebox, or you can also set it to automatic.
Then you set the PC's IP back to the same range as the Livebox, or you can also set it to automatic.
Thank you always
but I must be really incompetent ... I didn’t manage to do it ...!
I did two things
1/ by setting the same IP address 192.0.1.105 as my printer ... obviously, I got the IP address conflict message ..
2/ So I thought, I’ll set it in the same family. I set my computer to IP 192.9.1.104
and there the ping on my printer worked!!!
but .... when I entered the IP in my browser .... it didn’t find the host ....
I opened ports in the livebox (the one for the printer’s network address, I opened it in the Windows firewall ... nothing works ...
YET it would be great if I could change this strange address and turn it into 192.168... !!!
So what did I do that I shouldn’t have done ???
Thanks again for your patience!
