Hello everyone,
I just bought an Eee Pc 1015BX netbook, which originally runs on Windows 7 Starter.
I acquired this little laptop for professional needs, as I must install automotive diagnostic software that is only compatible with XP.
I took a tour on "All Drivers" with the netbook and downloaded all the available drivers for XP. Just to avoid being left without drivers after installing XP.
On the manufacturer's website, there are no compatible drivers for XP available.
I changed the boot order in the BIOS, connected an external (IDE) CD/DVD drive and inserted my original XP Home SP2 CD.
The CD starts, it loads, and at the moment when it says at the bottom "the setup program is starting Windows"
I get a blue screen with the following error code:
***STOP: 0x0000007B, (0xF7D6524, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).
As a result of my extensive searches before posting here, I saw that it could be a compatibility issue between the XP installer and the recent SATA hard drives. I followed what was stated in another post and disabled the "AHCI" option and checked "IDE NATIVE" (the only other option available) in the BIOS.
I attempted to install XP with the SP3 included (using nlite and SP3 found on Microsoft), still the same error code.
Then I used "Gparted" and deleted all existing partitions, then formatted to NTFS.
Tried again with both CDs (which work on my desktop PC) and still got the same error.
I've been searching for two days, finding nothing regarding this error code, not even a lead.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me, and best wishes to all.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 9.0.1

Go read what Microsoft says about it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103/en
I believe that the third option is the right one.
When you connect your drive, there is an IRQ conflict. -
Hello,
Following my extensive research before coming to post here, I saw that it might be a compatibility issue between the XP installer and recent SATA drives. I followed what was said in another post and disabled the "AHCI" option and checked "IDE NATIVE" (the only other available option) in the BIOS.
Indeed, there are many topics on numerous forums addressing the compatibility issue...
To stick to CCM, the most revealing topic - in my opinion - can be found here (but perhaps you've already read it): https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-1968133-installation-windows-erreur-stop-0x0000007b?full#25...
Best regards.

Hello,
Thank you for this link, it is indeed the one I had consulted and because of which I discovered this small modification in the BIOS that I should have made sooner or later!
Unfortunately, it was not enough to solve the problem, and I am currently following this tutorial ==> http://www.eeepc.fr/2009/09/30/installer-windows-7-vista-et-xp-simplement/
to create a bootable USB, just in case it really is a hardware conflict because of the external CD drive as Marcel indicated.
The procedure is very well explained but it takes quite a long time (UltraISO takes time to write to the USB stick, it's already been an hour but okay, no choice :) ).
Best regards. -
I think I've found it!
After reading a ton of articles about SATA drives, AHCI, etc., I just came across this article:
http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/17000-passer-de-windows-vista-a-windows-xp-hdd-s-ata-non-reconnu
(Thanks again, CCM) and since I had kept the references for the SATA drivers, I went ahead and downloaded them. They are drivers originally for Windows 7, but I just added them to my XP CD using nLite, and it installs!!!
Drivers found here ===> http://support.asus.com/download/download_item_mkt.aspx?slanguage=en-us&model=Eee+PC+1015BX
I thought I absolutely needed the XP compatible driver, but actually, that's not the case, at least not in this specific situation!
I’m waiting for the installation to finish before I celebrate, but I’m so happy that I couldn't wait to tell you all :) -

Thank you very much, I had the same problem. I wanted to install XP instead of Seven, which is too slow on these small machines, and I was really glad to find your information, because I'm not keeping up with the latest updates anymore. I didn't know about nLite and I would have struggled quite a bit.
Thanks again

"On the manufacturer's website, there are no compatible drivers for XP available."
Why didn't you check before the purchase?
Why continue if you know you won't have compatible drivers?-
-
@ Marcel: indeed, there are a few, especially for the BIOS, but it doesn't matter as I mentioned earlier, I have compatible drivers, it's the installation that is the problem.
And I thought like you that the rest would be on the XP CD, but it's true that with these new devices, I feel like everything is designed to make our task more complicated! -

Hello everyone!
So here I explain my problem hoping you can help me:
Having an Asus EeePC 1015BX with Windows 7 Starter, I decided to install Windows XP (having the original CD) for speed issues. Consequently, I followed this tutorial to the letter
https://www.pc-infopratique.com/forum-informatique/tutoriel-installer-windows-xp-hdd-vt-67892.html
Winlite, SATA file, WinsetupUSB, etc... so far so good. I boot from my USB key at startup, I see 2 installation steps, Part 1 and Part 2. Here’s the problem: the first part launches perfectly, the computer restarts, I boot from the USB key to start the second part, I execute it and then I get a black screen with a white blinking dash at the top left.
I’m out of resources and courage, if you need additional information don’t hesitate. And thank you in advance.-
