How to adjust the brightness of your TV

Hello,
how do I adjust the brightness of my television directly on the unit itself?
Explanation: I have a Canal Plus remote to change the channel
but I used to have a remote for my television, and I no longer have it.
I also don't have the manual for my television (the whole package).
If I press the menu button, won't it mess up my Canal remote ????
Help please, I'm a bit clueless about TVs but a lawyer...still

Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 9.0

    OK, but that could make me believe that law and technology don't mix well.
    ;-)

    There are often (if not always) commands placed on the television.
    Manufacturers have thought about the possible malfunction of remote controls and ditzy ones.
    Look closely.
    They may be hidden behind a small hatch.
